I really long for some sweet k o y l music after all this, you need to justify all your nice gear with a few equally nice songs.
I'm afraid it will take a little time... the music comes quite easily but writing lyrics in english is another story !

And you know how it is: you have a great piece of lyrics but no music that matches or nice music but no lyrics to sing on it ...
i know so many europeans who never want to sing in their own language! i always loved france BECAUSE they have laws protecting their own language. you should write a whole album in french! I would buy it!
seriously, i have some sugarcubes in icelandic that sound so much better than the ones in english!
I agree about the Sugarcubes... but the thing is you probably would have never heard of the Sugarcubes if they have only sung in Icelandic.
There's many reasons I see myself singing in English in this project:
- English is more suited to the kind of music I'll be doing: It will be fast, noisy and efficient songs. French can be great but it's more suited to more elaborated stuff: you tend to make longer sentences with longer words... I can assure you that "We will rock you" translate very bad in french..

- Making rock music is a dead end rock here...I mean really ! I don't plan to tour the world but even without that it is. I know a lot of talented french bands that can set-up tours in Europs quite easily while they can hadly get a gig in their hometown ! Unless we can't see you on TV or hear you on National Radios or are in a cover band don't expect to do more than 1 shitty gig a month.

+1
The French's haven't been that good in exporting music - I can only think of Mano Negra an (of course) Manu Chao as bands from France I'd listened to. The international (quite racistic) picture of a French musician is pretty close to the picture of any French artist (painter/actor etc) - basker, horizontally striped shirt red scarf, mustasch...playing accordion - singing chansons. But the VERY little I got from French live music performances is a concert with Mano in 91 that totally blew me away!
Go for it koyl (but indeed - I think
my own language isn't suited for pop/rock - it gets kinda arty farty IYKWIM)...
"Yeah, I love you"
can sound cool, but "Ja, jag älskar dig" doesn't. Never ever.
But you can almost consider the Mano Negra to be spanish... :-\
Do you know about Noir Désir ??
... If you don't then making rock music in french is really a dead end road.
I like your description of the French Musician... would make a great album cover..
