Okay, just for you guys I fished out my 9-hole Scots guard and laid it next to my '59's gold guard.



The Scots guard is actually less yellow than the vintage, and the brushed grain in it is more pronounced, even compared to areas where the lacquer has worn off the vintage guard. The differences are fairly slight though and only evident when the guards are next to each other. The thicknesses, as far as I can tell without taking the guard off the '59, are exactly the same.

Anyway, is the MIJ more yellow and the scottish guard more gold??

Definitely. The MIJ almost looks like polished brass to me.  I like them both though... they're different from each other, but both look cool.

No, I didn't.  I heard these repro guards were supposed to have been pre-lacquered, but it didn't look like it when I sanded it.

I also have a MIJ gold guard on a project guitar I've been working on. The MIJ guard is ALOT thinner than the Scotland repros.  I assume the Scots guard thickness to be authentic, but having never seen a real gold guard up close and personal... I don't know.

yah i noticed the metal was kinda thin too sadly i was hoping it would be thicker like the old ones but beggars cant be choosers
mybe ill just slap that one on my white jazz and look for another one
thats more to vintage specs
i hate it when its so damn hard to find good jazz or jag parts
if they do decide to make more ill deffently have to jump on the band wagon

That'll have to wait until I'm home on a nice bright day .. a rare combination of factors at this time of year here. Trying to take a shot with a flash would be a bit of a disaster I reckon.
