My first bass. I still remember going in the store to look at electric guitars with my mom, and seeing this bass hung on the wall of basses in between a bunch of black or red P and J's and thinking that it was such a unique looking bass. I'll never forget my mom being so supportive and convincing me to let her buy it for me (on the condition that I would actually play it). She also bought me a Fender Rumble amp to go along with it. I still have the checkerboard strap that the salesman threw in with it... although I flip in inside out so that it's solid black now. I sold the bass years ago to buy a different Jazz bass. I'm going to message the guy I sold it to and see if he would be interested in selling it back to me. Great bass!

One of the ibanez Jet King models. The JTK 1 I think.

Mine was similar to this. I believe mine had a natural coloured head stock and the pickup cover was black/dark grey, but the rest was the same.

It lasted a few months before I found a lawsuit era Ibanez tele.

Mine was an 80s Gibson SG Special that belonged to my neighbor. He didn't play it anymore and he said I could have it until I could afford my own guitar. It was a pretty sweet guitar to learn the basics on. I gave it back when I bought an Epiphone Les Paul a couple years later, but I miss that SG.

Well, it's not sat here in front of me, but in my opinion the neck is an AWESOME piece of sixties design weirdness, and as a fan of the more unusual guitars, I am pretty much begging you to do a sympathetic restoration, or at least, stash the neck safely if it doesn't work for you. I don't know this brand, but with smaller firms, it's not unusual for there to be 1 or 2 of a model known to exist (to collectors). Fenders by comparison are common as hell, so I for one think it's pretty important to preserve these types of guitar as they are.

I'd do terrible things to obtain one of those...but I suspect it would be pointless- do these even show up in Argentina? Seem to be pretty much ungoogleable, though I found a couple of pictures of different models

If you ever decide to sell, I'm your man!

^Totally agree with this, I'd love to see this restored keeping the essence intact, with any necessary upgrades for the sake of playability.

What would you do for a trem? Assuming the original is long gone, looks like a Hagstrom Tremar would fit and not look too out of place. That and a decent bridge...could it be that those things and a setup/rewire are all it needs?

Some shit black strat copy that my dad probably bought from a bootsale for a couple of quid. I remember it always being dirty and dusty, had that thing for years and never once changed the strings.
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

An old MIJ Epiphone Crestwood. You know, bolt on neck, cherry sunburst, maple fingerboard and faux-buckers. If I remember right it wasn't anything special. But what did I know back then?

I didn't see your replies. Thanks for the interest, man. It is a pretty unique piece. Very few of these were made in the 60s. As far as I know, Jakim was a one man operation. The guitars were made in Buenos Aires and most of them haven't moved much around, so once in a while one pops out for sale. I'd love to do a more accurate restoration, but I think the neck is damaged/unplayable beyond relief, but I will check properly in due time. Here are a few better shots. Tomorrow I'll be visiting my folks so I will take some more. Will post a thread when I get it restored.

Cool!

Well I'm sure you get where I'm coming from- no unecessary refinishing etc...

FWIW I'm of the 'never take no for an answer' school of guitar restoration... Twists, breaks, warps, all of that stuff is totally fixable (especially once one learns to accept that 99% of trussrods don't do what you wish they would, but heat and clamps will) so happy to advise/help out... Just totally love this guitar and want to see it returned to playability!

And yeah, if you EVER see another.. Let me know! I did find another online in the end... i reckon that trem could be recreated quite easily.

My first guitar is an Abilene Strat-copy. It doesn't sound great, but except for needing some fret work, it plays fine. It has been through many incarnations and this is the 4th and final one (until I find a couple more stickers that I absolutely love):

So, as I said earlier, my first guitar was a Peavey T-60, and I found a photo of one that matched mine on Reverb:

That's pretty much exactly what it looked like and it weighed, like, ten pounds.
