oops i did it again - '59 Silvertone Medalist

Post by 46346 » Sun Sep 27, 2015 11:33 pm

some of you may remember... i've been here before

but this just seems such a good value, and nobody wanted it??? :wtf:

so, i did it again. where in the world are you gonna find such a rich-sounding 50-watt point-to-point 2x12 amp in top shape for $400?

this is one of those 'dual output' amps that i've been trumpeting lately - where each speaker is fed by it's own output section! you get some wonderfully complex overtones... from compressed cleans , to Marshallesque overdrive.

yes... that's FOUR 6L6GB output tubes! i can't tell if they're old RCA's or new JJ's :fp: they both have the star-pointy micas...

my original justification was that my first one is 100% original and just wonderful, and a great studio amp, but would suffer physically from gigging. these are Danelectro-style pressboard cabinets... so i'd like to keep my OG Medalist in solid shape for the long haul. this new one, as described, looks the part very closely but has undergone a cab rehab that is not quite as precious as the original, so i don't mind risking that Marshall-style basket weave grill on stage or in transit... that stuff is easy to get. but i would be crushed if my original grille got snagged on something, it's so 50's golden wheat... i've never seen anything like it as a replacement part - here's my OG:

original handle and all that... so, yeah :derp: one of the few of my amps that i've never gigged! but still such a winner.

ok. upon closer inspection of the fotos, it looks like early RCA 6L6GB's in the left section, and late 60's RCA 6L6GC's in the right section. so rad... I'm also familiar with those alnico Cleveland speakers, and am stoked to hear them.

UPS says it should arrive on Friday. I might just stay home to accept delivery! excitement.

thanks! i didn't think i'd be this excited... it just seemed like a good idea.

but now the prospect of playing through TWO dual-output amps... perhaps through a slight stereo delay...

that makes FOUR pairs of 6L6GB's into four 12's... :w00t:

someday people will discover these amps... but by then i will own most of them :P

and my OSG pals will have first dibs ;)

...and now i've encountered a third! a bit of a project, the cabinet may be beyond... but it has all the good guts. the guy is stoked that i know about it and wants me to take custody of it for a bargain price...

I love the style of that amp. I’ve never tried one, but I’d love to someday.

I am done acquiring amps... but if I had the cash, I'd sure as heck grab one of these bad boys up.
