Anyone played or own an MIM classic 60s Strat?

For guitars of the straight waisted variety (or reverse offset).

Yeah, I used to have on in Burgundy Mist.  I liked everything about it except for the pickups.  Mind you, I blocked the trem, but yeah, otherwise a great guitar.  And it might have just been that it was a Strat as far why I didn't like the pickups, not so much the quality.

+1. I had an Olympic White, a good guitar, but the pups were weak & thin sounding.

I had an AVRI Olympic White Strat after that - I liked the handling (nitro finish) better than on the MIM, but their sound was almost the same. Before I could buy new pups, I sold it to get my second AVRI Jag... and never looked back.  :)

Unfortunately, the Jag scale doesn't work for me, and I find Teles really uncomfortable, so the Strat is the only option for me as a back up to my JM  8).

If there was a MIM Classic 60s model (or, even better, 50s) I probably would.  I know there's not much love for Strats around here, but if Hendrix and Verlaine thought they were halfway decent, I guess they're good enough to play second string to my JM  ;).

Yeah, I'd still save a little more and get the JM.  ::)

If I came across a super bargain vintage or AVRI JM, I'd go for it in a heartbeat, but since my JM will be my one and only guitar after the Jag sale is complete, I'd rather go for a second guitar that was 1) a different model and, above all, 2) CHEAP.  I can get a Classic 60s Strat for less than $500, so that definitely fits the bill on both counts.

I've had a whole string of second guitars in the last couple of years (Jag, Strat, Tele, Gretsch and a couple of Les Pauls) and none of them have hung around for long, so while I'd like to think that the Classic 60s will stay for a while, experience tells me that I'll only have it for a few months  :-[.

Look for a used Classic 60's, they're a great deal. I like the neck, it's your standard thin C, and the pickups in the one I played (and almost bought) were very decent. The more recent MIMs have Ceramic pickups . . . not too sure about the classic series though. I love Lake Placid Blue, and Sam Ash had a used one for $200. I don't know why I didn't snap it up right then and there.

The Classic Players were designed by the Custom Shop and are more vintage accurate, including 2 point trem and alnico pickups.  I can get one for under $500, easy.  I've got my eye on one on eBay that's Sonic Blue, which is my first choice, otherwise I'll probably go with LPB.

I've considered putting in Jag pickups.  Still considering, actually.  Are they close enough to be interchangeable?

But what would Jag pickups be without the Claw? I bet warmoth or pickguardian could cut you a custom one.
