Then add 1960 pickups and the PAT PEND tremolo....

my xmas bonus is quickly disappearing... but this JM is getting much closer to original!

Daphne "2", indeed. Such a nice name...

So i got home from work, ate dinner, then fired up the soldering iron....

tonight, i'm going to undo some of the wrongs that have been done to this guitar: i'm taking further steps to reinstalling its original parts...

I acquired from Andrew a pair of 1960 pickups and a Pat Pend tailpiece. All are going in before bedtime!

i'll tell you right now: these pickups seem much clearer and more articulate than the SD vintage that i removed. Nor are they noisy! they're clean and clear like a bell- very chimy and jangly. Not bad for 48 yr old pickups!

pls have a look at the following photos:

Popping Daphne's hood (again):

My jazzmaster looks a bit different from yours inside.... :) Those SD are coming out!

1960 pups go in- all original brass lines are present

Pat Pend and AVRI look similar. Approx same weight. My AVRI bar goes in to both with the same ease.

Reassembled. Retuned. These pickups sound FANTASTIC! Thanks Andrew! I'm glad you convinced me to try them!

Looks great Todd..........knobs look quite white (may just be pic) but a pair of aged reissue's would be cool.

Glad you like the pups  :)

it's such a cool color combo - and aged knobs should make it look even better.

I like it like this a lot, but I'd be curious to see it with the gold guard on?

thanks for the compliments, guys.
yes, the tortoise makes the Fender white knobs stick out even more. I,m going to hunt down other ones, maybe parchment. Ihad seen cream and mint ones, but they were after-market and looked wrong. I'll also have some fun with the amber water stain i bought... spray them with nitro too. They already had a coffee treatment- no difference.
i have two gold guards- a thin GPR (Allparts?) and a thick gold guard of perhaps Scot origin :) . The former fits very well, just like an AVRI. The latter will need a bit of filing before it fits on this JM. But the thick guard will probably go onto my next JM project.

That is absolutely gorgeous, Todd!!!!!  :?

I was not fond of solid colours and gold guard at first, but I changed my mind 100% now and yours is just another argument in favour of those colour combos!!

Beautiful!

heh! thanks, man!! she is pretty fetching like this! i think what sold me was that there are 1960 pickups in it now, and i wanted to hear what original pickups would sound like with an alumnium guard on top, brass plates underneath....
shit! i forgot! i haven't even plugged it in yet with the gold guard!

.... hurries off to get patch cord and guitar.....
