Do you mark your guitar? (for security)
A friend of mine used to carve his name somewhere on his guitar so if it got stolen he could ID it and oddly enough I bought a guitar off of him once and it was stolen from me and I knew what pawn shop it ended up at but since it wasn't my name I couldnt really do anything about it.
So today I took my neck PUP out of my Tele (I wanted to get an ohm reading off it) and I magic markered my SSN into the cavity. Anybody else do this?
OT...The date on my neck reads Mar2009 for some reason?

It makes sense really.
I see nothing wrong with writing something in security ink (whatever its called - shows up under UV light) so long as it's somewhere hidden & unlikely to be found by Mr GuitarThief.
On the other hand, scratching your name on the neckplate or carving your name into the visible woodwork is just vandalism, even if it is yours in the first place.

You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.

Use Snagg. (RFID Chip)
http://www.snagg.com/
I have them installed in my 3 Masterbuilts. They are hiddin in the body during manufacture. Real easy mod to do even after guit is built.
When you register on thier site you can add pictures and all info about the guitar if god forbid it went missing. More and more pawns shops are equipped to identify them before they take in during a transacton.
costs about 25 dollars

Sonic youth got some of their guitars back in bad condition but there is still alot gone.
i never thought of it but i should like you could hid a peice of paper or something in a cavity somewhere or like under the pick up covers.

Doesn't putting your social security number on your guitar just mean that whoever steals it can steal your identity too, start opening credit cards in your name etc?

I doubt it. Do thieves that steal guitars take them apart and look for #s on them or just sell them right away to pawn shops? Thats what happened to me, the guitar was stolen and sold within 24 hrs...These were crackheads from the neighborhood.theworkoffire wrote: Doesn't putting your social security number on your guitar just mean that whoever steals it can steal your identity too, start opening credit cards in your name etc?
Maybe it's not great idea but I'm not worried about it.

Re: Do you mark your guitar? (for security)
all mine are heavily modified so i know specifics about them that no one else does so i could identify them...if given the chance.
besides that im gonna be taking out insurance on my gear soon as its well over ten grand so i think its now a wise decision.
