AARGH! I can't get rid of the looong latency.... Now solved!

...on my PC!

It's almost brand new. Got Vista installed. My basic home recording set up is the same as I had on my old computer (4-5 year old with XP).
I use Cubase SX for the audio and ReWire Reason for the midi stuff - It's an easy and fast recording set up IMO. It worked super with the old PC, but with my new ultra-mega-powerful Vista PC the playback sound from Reason have half a second delay in time!!!! When I play Reason stand alone it's NO problem and when I record audio  there's no problem either....

Anyone got a clue what to do? 

both Reason and Cubase reacts  immediatly on the midi input signal (the input midi signal marker reacts that is), but the output is delayed.

Please....help.....

I would blame Vista or ReWire. Ask google, there's probably a thread started by someone with exactly the same problem on a forum somewhere, and hopefully an update to fix it available for download.

And ASIO drivers are always good to have, even if i don't think they have anything to do with your problem.

I'm at work at the moment but I'll check when I get back home....It's a"Try before Buy" version though  so I can't really use the regular Upgrades/fixes from the Propellerhead or the Steinberg sites...

a shorter version of my question is: Is there anything I can set up in Vista (a box to check, a slider to move etc) to get rid of the problem or will I need to upgrade the actual programs?

I got Roland/Edirol UA-25 with the latest drivers for Vista. I have the buffert sizes set to minimum before they pop and crack all the time....

dunno. have not tried vista but maybe the vista drivers are crap?

Found the problem via an online Cubase SX tutorial.

As I suspected it was a box I forgot to check... I had forgotten to choose the UA-25 ASIO driver (the directX ASIO was choosen - dunno why..) This happend by default with my old computer (or I have forgotten that I needed to do this settings by hand)

I think I'm doing pretty well - considering I was against computerbased home recording until 3 years ago  and had NEVER used a sequencer program before - just using a 4 track until then 

...but even an old grumpy retro loving guy like me had to surrender at last and now I couldn't be without my PC and my midi keyboard 

It's just sad that my Vintage keys stands pretty unused though...
