Would a stop tail work with a std Jazzmaster bridge?

Post by ohm-men » Thu Mar 13, 2008 3:54 am

Hi All,

Still in the middle of a few projects. I'm thinking of putting a stop tail on a guitar that now uses a JM bridge.
So if it would work how far aft the bridge should I mount the stoptail? And since it's  a 25.5 scale guitar, there will be no need to mount the bridge at the typical "Gibson" angle?

Thanks.

I guess it would work, but why? You loose the need for "rocking" with a stop tail. (If your answer is "for the looks" I totally understand  :P ). Maybe using some kind of damper to eliminate the rocking function.

You will not need to have it angeled. Not even on a shorter scale - the Jag and the Mustang doesn't have angled bridges - the Gibby bridge is angled because the TOM haven't the same travelspace for the intonation setting I guess. (I'm not a Gibby expert though...)
Someone knows where I can find the nearest woodchipper to throw my pieces of junk into?

i see no reason why it wouldn't work.
if it was me, i'd put the stopbar so the front end is right behind where the two screws of the trem plate that are closest to the bridge would be.

Thanks for the fast answers. Not sure if I wanna go with a stop tail, just an option.
Seams like I will be going for a floating trem, as I just got offered one cheap (CIJ)

anyway, this is where I'm aiming at....

I agree with FUZZ_KING. The stoptail would be nice on the blue one though, but the trem on the green.

Yes! The green! As far as the T-O-M goes, I've always been a fan of adjustable wraparounds.

With a wraparound TOM, does the neck angle have to be adjusted?
Isn't it sad.... I'm immune?

I put a TOM on my Black Jazzmaster and it work like a dream: it even stays in tune better than the stock bridge I have on my OTM Jazzmaster. I'll put the same on my SonicMaster project. :)

All you have to care about is to file the saddles slots so the strings move easily on them.
