Project Teletubby!!!

Post by jagermeister » Sat Mar 22, 2008 9:59 am

As I have 90% of the parts necessary to make this, I figured why the hell not. Color is pending btw, but it will for sure be krylon lol. No I don't even need this axe, but I've been trying to sell off all my spare parts and shit for about a year, and I've taken that as an omen to keep em.

Every other finish option I'm considering is sparkle and that doesn't really work on kisekae (and how the hell will I make it work irl lol), or what if I painted the top up like a surfboard and left off the pickguard, hmm. That'd almost be cheaper. Someday I might transfer the JM pickups into a real JM and make it into a Teletubby Deluxe/Blaster.

...buh!

I'm extremely partial to John Mayer stripes and I like that color combo. I say the second one, though consider this as a pickguard, I think it looks so sexy when you have different pickups. I'm not loving the pearl, though, unless you did an aged pearl, or maybe parchment.

This one, but indeed, with a custom-pickguard like Ryan mentioned, and Jaguar-style knobs.

Why not a 'big' Deluxe guard + the extra controls?
And, yes: Jag knobs or witch hats.

Someone here has already made a drawing of something similar but with a deluxe/thinline guard..jay maybe?
Architecture students are like virgins with an itch they cannot scratch,  never build a building 'till are fifty, what kind of life is that?

haha, bumping this shit up to show people I'm serious  8)

...So, this has happened.

Image

Pickups are SD hots, body is an MIM thing that was covered in paisley paper (and then bursted in an effed way, requiring me to remove the stuff from the front...) though when I think about it, to replicate this is novel, as it'll cover all of my probably yet to be shitty routes and bondo work ;D Contemplating other fabrics, but not plaid, despite the irony...

It'll probably wind up painted though. Some sort of surf/orange pearl? Thinking it'll have the stripe in any case... I've got all the parts either here or on order atm except for the pickguard  (guitarfetish is backordered on the one I want) and bridge cups, time to practice with my router work other than that. The speedknobs are staying cause I love them (already own them :))

Hopefully I can get objects screwed on straight rather than the normal diagonal way my eyes usually find when I try to draw a straight line... lots and lots of measuring...

Contemplated a Deluxe pickguard, but those are a bit too ugly IMO, as much as I think Teles are ugly in general (actually ;D), though the ugliness is part of the appeal to me, especially with a Deluxe... Though the Thinlinish thing up there might still be a contender.

As for the switching... What if I were to do this...

Image

Nashville John Mayer Mustang Teletubby turns things into boners.

As I have a couple stray CIJ Jag things around, but before I tart it up that way I'll get it working proper with two pickups. Anyway, whatever the configuration it will have a strat 5 way switch and the 3 way dpdt minitoggle so I'm contemplating options... bridge/out of phase/parallel/series/neck? And how about a bright/dark mode from that dpdt... Unseen are crappy matte black sperzel lockers that I had extras of and are now installed and everyone will lol at, one is missing a thumbwheel haha.

...so I got brave and did this...

Image

...which looks better when covered by these:

I only really care how the bottom of that bridge pickup route is going to look (which ironically will mostly be made of filler as a result of the tele pup route's unfettered existence, lol), and I REALLY stopped caring about things upon attempting the 1.25" deep trem route after about an hour of doing everything else, lol. So really all I need to do is dig out a couple holes for bridge cups, knock a few holes in the guard etc...

still NO clue on what I'm going to do for a finish really, lol. I'll see if I don't have to dowel and redrill my bridge six times first :D Anyway, here's a mockup of what it more or less should look like soon (taken before routes)

Image

...and here are the semi-temporary loltuners, lol.
