Nearly free straplock install with pics! (Warning: Alcohol content!!)

Post by RumorsOFsurF » Sun Apr 06, 2008 9:59 pm

I decided to enjoy a couple beers today....for my guitar's sake.  :D

I'm trying the old Grolsch washer trick.  The beer's not too bad, either.

This is a pretty technical mod here, so study the pics.  ::)

Step 1: Buy Beer!!

Step 2: Drink said beer

Step 3: Save the rubber grommet thing

Step 4:  BRING TEH RAWK!

Strap is now securely fastened

Total cost:  $3.46 (plus, I enjoyed the beers!)

I tried this mod (can we call it that?)  recently on Paul's Jazzmaster as I do it for all my guitars, but fell at the first hurdle - it's really difficult to get those washers around Belfast these days, for some reason. Even the off-licence at the end of the street which does all sorts of weird foreign beers doesn't stock it!

Plus, there's no need to buy the beers, you can have a bag of hundred washers for a few $/€ in grocery stores... No alcohol involved, and a lifetime stock. ;D

that'd be a good ebay business - selling grolsh washer strap lock systems. you'd have to charge - what was it? - $3.49 per set, lol.

and included would be a printout of the installation "method" posted here, with a disclaimer "as part of my ebay servce to you, i've laready completed steps 1-3. proceed directly to step 4. enjoy the safety and security of your new straplock system."

;D

True.I remember some beerbottles used to have blue, orange and white ones too...But these days the breweries probably use the same red-rubber-thingy manufacturer.
Btw:Remember to clean before use...they can be awfully sticky :D

awesome.  We always called them "punk rock strap locks".  Bonus points if you can do the "open grolsch by hitting it with an extended index finger" trick.  (hint, use the knuckle of your middle finger to hit the metal part first...  Although I now just broke the magicians guild code!)
