(Even More) New Deep Sea Diver out today
Criminally underrated group, imo, and Jessica plays a Costello Jazzmaster along with a custom Bilt offset, so more than worthy of being on here.

Can't wait for the new album. "Secrets" is an all time top 20 for me.

Man, I love her and the band! Excellent taste in instruments, too.

I wish I could have seen them on the dates they did with Wilco a year or so back. Supposedly there was some three JM-jamz with her, Tweedy, and Nels that were really great.

Really loved the first single that came out a couple of weeks ago. Looking forward to giving the rest a listen.

Re: New Deep Sea Diver out today
I preordered a CD of the album from Bandcamp the second I got wind of it. I'm waiting to listen to any of it until I can listen to the entire thing at once. I really can't wait though. I met Jessica last fall (they were touring with some band I didn't like at all as the opener, which was a damn shame) and she was telling me that the album was basically done then, but that they were just looking for a label/someone to produce the physical album. I'm glad they found someone to work with! I heard some of their new stuff that night, and Deep Sea Diver only gets better and better.

Re: New Deep Sea Diver out today
They have had this problem pretty consistently if you ask me. 3/4 times that I've seen them they were the opener and whomever was after them was either some weird hipster band I didn't care about or some like... borderline contempo-christian act. And mind you, all three of these times they blew said acts off the stage immediately.Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2020 1:18 amI preordered a CD of the album from Bandcamp the second I got wind of it. I was glad to see Wilco take them out a bit last year, so hopefully that trend will continue once shows return.... whenever that is.

Re: New Deep Sea Diver out today
I just remembered that the band I saw them with was called Joseph. By description, I should've liked them ok, but they were terrible. Deep Sea Diver absolutely blew them out of the water there too. I've never left after an opener, but my sister and I didn't like Joseph. I talked to Jessica for a few, and then had no qualms about leaving after that.stevejamsecono wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2020 5:45 amThey have had this problem pretty consistently if you ask me. 3/4 times that I've seen them they were the opener and whomever was after them was either some weird hipster band I didn't care about or some like... borderline contempo-christian act. Re: New Deep Sea Diver out today
annd they just dropped another single with Sharon Van Etten on it. Loving it even more.

I really hope this is the album that does it for them. Certainly sounds like it's going to be warranted if it does.

Re: New Deep Sea Diver out today
Completely anecdotal evidence, but I seem to hear more folks talking about them this time round. Hopefully word has got out and there's more momentum for them.stevejamsecono wrote: ↑Tue Sep 01, 2020 7:46 amI really hope this is the album that does it for them. I'll take it. And hey, third albums are supposed to be the "do-or-die" ones, right?Veitchy wrote: ↑Wed Sep 02, 2020 6:05 pmCompletely anecdotal evidence, but I seem to hear more folks talking about them this time round. Re: (Even More) New Deep Sea Diver out today
She did one with forum 'favorite' JHS too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OOK3hglZrg
Josh knows their music more so his interviewing is more fluid than Chris Kies, but both were really cool. She's got some cool OSG approved stuff. Fun fact, if COVID hadn't happened she was actually due to turn up for some gear talk on a podcast I do as well! Alas.
Been sitting with Impossible Weight for a few days so far and I do really like it. There's a few tracks near the end that seem like throwaway "indie dance" type jams, but all in all it's a good progression for them. I really hope it does well for them and they get to tour behind it.
