Re: Current AVRI Jazzmaster prices - are they worth it?
I remember years back when you could get AVRI's for $1,200 and I couldn't afford that. Now that I can, the new stuff is almost $2,000 and with odd configurations or colors that don't appeal to me. When I get close to buying one, I just go back to making my own using MJT body, allparts neck, and all the parts that I would change out in a Jazzmaster to have it be what I like best. It just doesn't make sense to me anymore to spend over a grand on a guitar that I would change pickups or other parts on. I have grown to dislike thick paint finished bodies and necks. I got really close to buying a Japanese Jazzmaster yesterday, but it would still end up being around $1200 plus shipping and just to get a black Jazzmaster? I could make one with all my preferred stuff for that much.

While some prefer the newer AV and OV series, I happen to prefer the AVRI62 JM model.
Having said that, I think current used (asking)prices for them are really too high. However, if one pays "too much" for a guitar that they really love, and is the right model. color, condition, etc., all you lose is a little money with the purchase. Enjoyment of the guitar lasts a long time. You may/may not find another in the future......

Re: Current AVRI Jazzmaster prices - are they worth it?
Not a JM but Ive had 2 AVRI 62 Jags.. and they blew away all the others I've owned. (CIJ, MIJ, Squire, MIM, 50th anniversary burgundy mist B&B)
And held its own with the few vintage ones ive owned.
I only have 1 62 Avri jag now.. I had sold the other one, after getting rid of the inferior CIJ and MIJ (No contest, I dunno why people say they are equal)
Then pinned for it back for years.. got a squire and MIM and it wasn't right.. found my current AVRI and its a dream,.. Picked up the 50th Anni (Love B&B) but it wasn't as good so sold it when I needed to buy a CVPI after my accident.

I played a Black 2005 AVRI Jazzmaster for about 10 years as my main guitar. Excellent instrument. I replaced it a few years ago with a OTM American Original…for me that was a HUGE improvement. Craftsmanship was better, it was lighter and more resonant, pickups sounded better, finish was better, loved the neck more…the difference was not subtle to me.
I paid $1,700 for the AO new. If I was in desperate need of a guitar now I think $2,000-2,200. Would definitely be worth it for that guitar.

I'd keep an eye on Dave's Guitar Shop for one of their '62 Thinskins. No reason to pay inflated used prices.

The big issue currently is almost no one has these guitars in stock and the used market is unreal right now. I've been in the market for a Jazzmaster or Jag for awhile but it's looking like I'm going to have to build instead.

I messed up. Could have bought one 2 years ago for somewhere between $1500-2000. Didn't. Big mistake. Can't find one now at any price. I have a '62 AVRI and I love it, it's my favorite guitar. But would have loved to have a '65AV, too. Oh well. First World problems, right?

American made, yes. Vintage spec? No. Fender doesn't run any of those right now outside of the Custom Shop.

I own an AV65 Jazzmaster (Olympic White) & an AV65 Jaguar (CAR) & they are great Guitars.. About as close as you can get to original vintage..redchapterjubilee wrote: ↑Mon Sep 27, 2021 4:57 amAmerican made, yes. Vintage spec? No. Fender doesn't run any of those right now outside of the Custom Shop.
It would be great if Fender would do some kind of AVRI… But, there isn’t one at this time.. If you want a new JM or a Jag you have to buy what’s available..
The OP does say he wants to try out a bunch of different JM’s.. So, If you don’t want to pay the going rate for an AVRI JM or Jag any of the above would be great additions to the tool box until the next one comes along..
