am I the only one that`s majorly put off by this being a Disney thing?
I am a huge beatles fan, but the Disney connection is a big turn off. fuck that company. Not sure if there are any plans to make this a blue ray release but I will never pay for Disney plus.
I guess I can always try to watch it illegally.

OMG so excited!
A couple things:
1. Both trailers open with "57 hours of unseen footage". I would like the see the other 54 or 53 hours or however much isn't in this series, which I'm sure is most of that footage.
2. Speaking of all the footage, I want to see the whole rooftop show from top to bottom. Put that into it's own thing. Shouldn't take any Peter Jackson magic to make that.
3. What's the market for rosewood teles going to be after this series launches?

I am excited too!
The RW tele: I think it's a gorgeous instrument, but apparently Harrison could not get rid of it fast enough? I know it is back in his estate now and has historical significance, but I find it strange that the demand for it is boosted by its connection to a player who seemingly did not think much of it to begin with.

Already watched both and loved it. You get a real sense of the crazy possibilities they had at the time, and how strange, exciting and anxiety-inducing that must’ve been. I keep having to remind myself they were only in their mid-20s at the time. Watching Lennon and McCartney work together and riff off each other is fascinating, there’s this absolute confidence and trust in their own and each other’s abilities and freedom to throw any idea at it. I’m surprised after watching this I now imagine Paul being the more difficult one of the two to work with (musically), the one least willing to make compromises. That secretly recorded conversation between him and John about George... they were so in tune with each other it’s like listening to one brain arguing with itself. And it’s such a joy to watch them gel again and goof off after they leave that Twickenham studio and resettle into the Apple studios. They’re were funny and charming as ever, and it’s great just watching them enjoy making music together. I love hearing the (imo) bad ideas they had for some songs; they weren’t perfect, but collectively they were amazing at filtering out lesser ideas and coming up with great solutions. Also funny to see the obvious bemusement of the rest of the band at Maxwells Silver Hammer. Can’t wait to see more.
It’s also making me have to fight some gas for the first time in ages; I love the look and sound of John’s Casino.

Re: The Beatles : Get Back - a film by the great Peter Jackson...
I finished watching it last night. I enjoyed it but have no want to go back to watching any of it over. I think that is more of a testament as to how well it was put together IMHO.
The highlight was definitely the full roof top performance for me. No where near what the original film made it out to be. They were tight. Harrison was engaged. The bobbies didn't really shut it down as much as they ran out of material that they probably wanted to play.
I thought Peter Jackson did a great job through out but I was puzzled by the ending, or what was shown as the last day. I really appreciated when the captions would say that a take was the actual LP published take when that would come up periodically through out all of the footage. But at the end there were only snippets of actual takes for Two of Us, Let It Be, and The Long and winding Road. The latter has always bored me to death so I didn't care about not seeing an actual take of that but the other two would have been cool to see in their entireties. Lennon whistling at the end of Two of Us would have been priceless IMHO. My only guess is that footage doesn't exist. Either Lindsay-Hogg screwed up and didn't capture it all or it got destroyed because I doubt that Jackson wouldn't have shown it by evidence that he showed many parts of things that were pure drivel. I imagine that it was destroyed at some point. I think that the roof top footage was heavily altered by Lindsay-Hogg to narrow the format. You can see that with how it fits the screen and how split screens come up. It wouldn't surprise me if Lindsay-Hogg or Magic Alex messed with the last day footage. Anyway, that was my only disappointment with the whole thing.

I really enjoyed the experience for all of the obvious reasons and also for remembering what it felt like to be in the room when a new song is being worked out. It makes me miss being in a band.

I'm planning to see it soon, I'm seeing excerpts and trailers left and right.
Never seen so much closeups on tapewounds strings on a bass, funnily enough I'm always playing my short scale bass with those installed these days and loving it !

Re: The Beatles : Get Back - a film by the great Peter Jackson...
Watched part 3 last night and, unsurprisingly, enjoyed it as a whole. Kind of felt like I was living with The Beatles for a couple of days.
Lindsay-Hogg seemed a bit of a wanker. Well an utter wanker, really, what with his fat arse, trousers tucked into his boots, and cringeworthy transparent wish that he was young Orson Welles. But at least he captured for posterity the reality of the latter stage of "the boys", even if his own cut told a different story.
My biggest takeaway was how utterly transformative Billy Preston's input was. Everything just seemed to come together from the first keys he pressed on that old Rhodes. I was listening to the other parts when they were on the rooftop and trying to imagine whether it would've been half as good without him, and while it's impossible to say, I suspect the answer is no. Such a solid, swinging groove and deft touch he brought to the proceedings.

Having played an original one (from 1970). It's really a dog of an instrument. Extremely heavy, despite being chambered (think: Les Paul weight), and due to the rosewood body, it is extremely shrill and piercing in sound, so far from a "plug 'n play" guitar.mediocreplayer wrote: ↑Mon Oct 18, 2021 9:13 am

And my god, was John an utter cockwomble at times. The less said about Mrs. Ono, the better.
