Jazzmaster pickup route depth

Post by dbishopbliss » Wed Dec 22, 2021 1:16 pm

I think this should be simple question but I have had trouble finding an answer. I have seen everything from 3/8" to 3/4".

I am building a guitar with JM pickups. I have a set of Classic Vibe and Curtis Novak pickups. The CV pickups have thick foam on the bottom of them. When I squeeze tightly the pickup, cover and foam are about 15/16". The Novak pickups have no foam - do I need to get some?

Anyway... how deep SHOULD a Jazzmaster pickup route be?

Thanks!

I've gone by what faction has on their jazzmaster template page:

https://store.factionguitars.com/collec ... -templates

Recommended dimensions and routing depths are:

Body Thickness: 1 5/8"
Neck Pocket Depth: 5/8"
Pickup Cavity Depth: 3/8"
Rhythm Cavity Depth: 1"
Lead Cavity Depth: 1 3/8"
Vibrato Cavity Depth: 1 3/8"
Bridge Thimble Hole Depths: 1 3/16"
Roundover Radius: 7/16"
