oh that's a major bummer man.  Sorry to hear about that.  Mercury Magnetics makes very very good sounding transformers.

That sucks...sorry to hear it!!  :'(

Call me a skeptic though...but I'd be asking myself why the OT on my newly serviced amp immediately fried.  Assuming everything is in order and you have the proper value fuses (no tin-foil or oversized fuses...which your tech should have checked for) OT's don't crap out THAT often!

thanks for the link! i took a look at the site, but i'm totally confused. what should i look for to go in a '68 50w plexi?

i wish i knew more about amp innards. i can only figure that all the new components finally delivered the current that should be there (which was not the case before) and the papers in the OT who had been dried out over the years couldn't handle it.

If your amp is a valuable 60's plexi it might be worth it to have the transformer rewound and keep the original for collector's value.  Mercury does rewinds.

At the very least be sure to get your original transformer back from the tech...don't throw it in the garbage!!!
