At nearly 41 years old I dare not attempt a move like that anymore...I'll put my back out (again) :D :D
My rock game is decidedly below the rim these days, but I can still dream and try moves with a 330 + JC77. (But: Wonky back + I broke my hip at the skatepark a few years back... at least it wasn't in the bath)

Really enjoying this album, thanks for the share!
It's nice to hear the American answer to the jangle underground. It would have been fun to be in college on the east coast in 1985 or whatever.
Thanks as well! Just bought it - some great songs but a particular standout for me is The Darrows' "Is It You". Also, I graduated in '85 from a midwestern liberal arts college and I'm from the mid-atlantic east coast. I was super into R.E.M. back then (and now) - they're music is timeless to me.

I really should get another Ric 360...

Another (random) observation on Rickenbackers (nothing groundbreaking). It seems that they've always had a "luxury" image to them, likely because there were no starter models (or copies, like strats and les pauls), even though they were always around the same price point as nice(r) Fenders, etc. So it was always a big deal when somebody played a Ric (and they were sometimes the object of misguided punk/indie privilege police shaming as a result).

In my experience for used ones, they always could be had for less than a USA Jazzmaster (or Fender US bass). It was just a question of patience and being able to find one. The street prices for new were always right around there as well (although often with a super long wait... I've never had a new one though). A new 360 is $2499 (2022 price list), which is right around the $2399 of the AVII Jazzmasters. It's just that there are a million different models that are cheaper (Squiers now starting at $270, etc.).

I was a big fan of the jangle pop ‘80s bands and really wanted a Rickenbacker as my 1st guitar because all my friends had Les Paul knockoffs or Strats.

I had to buy new back in 1985. I had been searching for one since 1982 without any luck. Sometimes a halfhearted “Oh, we had one of those for ages, but we finally sold it,” or if there was one “Sorry, not for sale, that’s the shop owners collection.” I ended up with a mid-60s Jazzmaster as my first guitar because I couldn’t find a 360, and Jazzmasters were cheap and plentiful.

A friend had two Rickenbackers. Both ‘60s era. A 360 12 string and a 330. He worked at the shop that eventually sold me a new one. I had to order it as all they had were Rickenbacker bass guitars and a stray 620. It was Fireglow and I ended up finding a ‘73 Fireglow 4001 to match a few months later in a pawn shop for 1/4 of what the 360 cost.

I still have the bass and eventually replaced the ‘85 360 with a ‘93 Fireglow 360v64. The ‘85 I traded with cash for a ‘63 Jazzmaster, so it all came full circle.

That looks like a 360/12c63 (the v64 ones have a bit less space between pickup and bridge). Still in production afaik

fuzzjunkie - I remember that v64 from thunder road!

Yeah that’s the one! I was seriously looking on Reverb for a black one until that popped up locally. It was a good price relative to what else was available and I always prefer buying guitars I can test out.

There are some amazing guitars in this thread!

16 or 17 years ago, I had these - a 330/6 Fireglo and a 360/12 Blueburst:

Played a lot of fun shows with them, and then moved back to being obsessed with offsets and sold off my Rickenbackers (I especially regret getting rid of the blueburst...).

Last year, I got bit by the Rickenbug again and now have this 2013 360/12 and 2022 330/6, both in Fireglo, I love playing them so much.
I have a wide-spaced nut (RickySounds) installed on the 360/12 and it made an incredible difference, I highly recommend it.

I've since put a Mastery bridge on fullerplast's wonderful Capri:

And I used to have a 325v59:

My buddy & bandmate Adam is going to let me borrow his JG 620 to tie me over. I set it up for him a few years ago but can't recall how it sounds.

Here's my 360/12W. It's a pretty nice guitar, but 12-string doesn't really suit me. Also it's not quite as bright as I'd like.

I like the walnut series! It’s hard to believe that guitar isn’t bright enough with the maple fretboard. Interesting.

It’s almost like the wood used on an electric guitar doesn’t really affect the tone all that much…

Yeah, I think it's probably one of the most prolific bits of psychoacoustic misinformation in the guitar world. "looks brighter so sounds brighter". It's been repeated for so many decades as a fact that no-one even questions it anymore.

The strings don't even touch the wood. Maybe if the frets were made of maple there would be a difference.

Listening with our eyes is something we're all guilty of I think.

Ha ha ha, and I still believe the wood makes a noticeable difference, if all other things are equal. It's just the pickups or electronics in that one. I mean it sounds nice acoustically, but it's not coming through the amp. Now that I look at it again, even the photo came out unusually dark, it might be haunted by a dark spirit or something.
