Holy Crow! That's an astounding guitar! I quoted just to have it appear one more time! Every detail is spot on. What a fun looking instrument!ThePearDream wrote: ↑Sun Apr 09, 2023 5:55 pmWaking up this thread to add Duplicolor BGM0506 Indigo Metallic:

Re: Duplicolor Thread
Thanks so much folks! I appreciate it. It really is a lovely color in person.
I'll be posting a bunch more pictures later in my build thread. So keep an eye out for that.

A bit darker and different hue. I would say THIS one is closer...but I never used it.

Re: Duplicolor Thread
How does that series of paints work with guitars? I've heard horror stories about enamels just peeling off. I like the Duplicolor stuff because it's acrylic lacquer and it's fairly easy to work with and it holds up well. At least the guitars I've painted with it over the years are still doing alright, minus the parts where I've wacked them into a wall or something.

I don’t keep track in any reliable way, but it must be more than 20 at this point.N0_Camping4U wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2023 10:03 amLOVE the hempstead green. how many refins have you done?Tweedledee wrote: ↑Sun Apr 09, 2023 6:38 pmFantastic! Of the 20, how many would you say are classic/vintage colors and did Duplicolor nail the colors or at least get really close?Tweedledee wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 3:35 amThanks! I don’t keep track in any reliable way, but it must be more than 20 at this point.

Re: Duplicolor Thread
I haven’t tried to match vintage Fender colors with Duplicolor, so I’m not very helpful there. With Duplicolor, I’m usually just looking for colors that I think will look good on whatever guitar I’m painting. When I’ve been looking to nail a vintage color I’ve gone with ReRanch.GilmourD wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 4:08 amOf the 20, how many would you say are classic/vintage colors and did Duplicolor nail the colors or at least get really close?Tweedledee wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 3:35 amThanks! How many cans of color / clear are you using on a typical guitar? You've given me the motivation to go for a refin.Tweedledee wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 6:43 pmI haven’t tried to match vintage Fender colors with Duplicolor, so I’m not very helpful there. What resources did you use to gather the courage and confidence to begin?

I’ve handled things a bunch of different ways, but my basic approach is:
Grain filler - if necessary depending on the type of wood
Sealer - less than one can; I usually use spray shellac
Primer - one can; the Duplicolor one is good to use with Duplicolor paints
Color coats - one can; sometimes a little more if you’re painting the headstock to match
Clear coats - I always use nitro clear; Watco is good; at least two full cans but sometimes three
At first I spent a lot of time reading on the ReRanch forum. Since then it’s been experimentation to figure out what works.
