Graham Nash/David Crosby - nice secondhand find, but not a patch If I Could Only Remember My Name
Nice, timely find. It’s a solid 50/50 album and you know instantly who wrote each song. But yeah the Crosby tunes are stronger on his solo debut.
Both great listens though.
Yes, I think I was hoping they would be doing something a bit more unusual with their harmonies and vocal arrangements on this one.
Let’s be honest, these guys were recording & releasing virtually anything to fulfill quotas & keep the cheques in the post. Those coke habits didn’t pay for themselves.
Don Henley might have been worse for this, and a bit more late 70s/early 80s though. The music was pure dirge.

Went to Rough Trade to pickup the new Rick Rubin book & found some unexpected surprises:
Alvvays - Blue Rev (signed)
Belle & Sebastian - late developers (/500)
Sister John’s new album with 75% off. It’s not a brilliant album, but it’s worth £5.
I’ve been loving the new belle & Sebastian album

Picked up a copy of an American pressing of Beggars Banquet for fun.
A/B testing it with the 2004 (digitally) remastered press I have, it’s true that those original versions have something special about them. Apart from lots of surface noise, I can’t really tell the two apart.

I braved RSD today even though there weren’t any must-buys. Certainly the last time I’m going to bother at rough trade. Over 3 hours queuing in the cold.
I picked up more bits for friends. A few for me:
Yumi Zouma - what’s the story morning glory
Dodie - hot mess ep
Ernest Ranglin - below the Bassline
I had the ranglin on import a few years back, but sold it because people were paying silly money & I could just as easily buy a cd. There was something that popped on the vinyl vs cd, so hoping this press has the same aliveness.
Yumi Zouma has a bobble in it that causes some skipping at the start of the first track. Bloody annoying. Will have to wait & see if there’s stock left after the weekend & exchange.

I know this isn’t vinyl, but a nice little thing from Nayad.
Their 1st ep recorded on a used cassette. They put their new ep on side b for me as well

(or side a, it seems)

Sigur Rós - Kveikur RSD double LP.
Also listened to the test pressing of my band's album which came through last week. Bit of a life goal achieved there.

I've played with a couple of them - don't be surprised if your review gets quoted on future publicity materials.

Finally scored a 2LP green/orange splatter copy of The Kinks "Villiage Green" at a reasonable price. Sounds as fantastic as it looks.

Sal Paradise won’t be touring in Scotland anytime soon then
There’s a couple of bangers on that album. When they do a good song it’s a great song.

Yea, took me a while to find The Kinks, beyond their smattering of hits over the years, but they are the rare band that puts out quality stuff over decades. Village Green in particular is just a masterpiece.

Sharon is (was) amazing, and that movie is a real hidden gem in the Coen's oeuvre. One of these days I need to track down that soundtrack.
