Those 3 LPs are the absolute zenith of both Ray Davies's songwriting and the Kinks' recording career. I have a soft spot for Arthur, but outside of those three their albums are patchy affairs, albeit including some utterly amazing songs.sal paradise wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 4:33 amPopped into Fopp yesterday. They had Something Else & Face to Face in the sale. The 2nd & 3rd best kinks albums on 180g for £32. Thank you v much![]()

I saw many of Bobby and co's earliest Glasgow gigs, bought the first two Creation singles, taped the Peel sessions and almost wore the cassette out....and couldn't believe how shite Sonic Flower Groove was. It's been a long wait, but this is the LP I always wanted to hear from that earliest incarnation of Primal Scream.

Received the new Lush reissues for Spooky, Split & Lovelife. Only listened to Spooky so far but it sounds kind of harsh on first listen. Put on my original copy to compare 'For Love' & the new version definitely lacks "body". The original sounds fuller. The guitars & bass are more defined if that's what they were going for.

The new version definitely feels like they pushed the dbs up to the edge of distorting when I’m streaming at cd quality. The original is definitely softer sounding to my ears.Plumerai wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2023 8:34 amReceived the new Lush reissues for Spooky, Split & Lovelife. Have you got the clear vinyl? That might also be part of it. I’ve got a few albums on clear that are super noisy or just sound off.
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

Yes on the clear vinyl. Didn't think it would make a difference. I listened to Split today & it's not as bad. More low/mid tones. Some of the distorted guitar parts were very defined. Didn't get a chance to throw on the original to compare, but some songs sounded nice & some odd.sal paradise wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2023 9:42 amThe new version definitely feels like they pushed the dbs up to the edge of distorting when I’m streaming at cd quality. Went on a small vinyl bender last week...
Lush - Lovelife (2023 remaster)
Lush - Spooky (2023 remaster)
Lush - Split (2023 remaster)
Cocteau Twins - Treasure
Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas
The Jesus And Mary Chain - Psychocandy
I've long had digital copies of them all but nothing on vinyl.
