Re: Opinion on the New Nirvana In Utero 30th Anniversary box sets
The major Nirvana geek that I am is screaming: "YAAAAAAASSSSS TAKE MY MONEY"
But the person trying to be an adult is screaming back "NOOOOOOOO, just buy the CD and not the other junk"
I am conflicted.

In Utero was my favourite Nirvana Album and was a major influence on about everything but honestly: I haven't listened to Nirvana in years and I don't think my adult self vibes with Nirvana as much as my youth self...

£260 worth of mainly tat, no thanks.
I was a huge Nirvana fan, no a modest Nirvana fan. But £260 for something that I'd probably look at once is a no go for me.

It seems like they already packaged and sold any lucrative scraps years ago. I don't see that there's anything new here that makes it worth upgrading from my 30 year old original copy of In Utero or my VHS of Live and Loud.

Re: Opinion on the New Nirvana In Utero 30th Anniversary box sets
I was a huge Nirvana fan but didn’t listen to In Utero beyond the first few months of its release. The songs on Nevermind are infinitely better and the Albini sound does nothing for me. I think it’s a good record; and maybe not attempting to recreate Nevermind was the best course of action at the time.
The opening line of Serve the Servants is still brilliant, but it’s unfortunately followed immediately by an idiotic line, though together I think they capture Kurt pretty well — someone who really wants to be a rockstar but at the same time is embarrassed by it.

Okay, okay, I'd like the book and the CDs but that's it.

Not going to lie, I'm in for the live disks. I have an audience recording of the Seattle show and it's one of the best of the In Utero tour that I've heard, looking forward to a soundboard recording mixed well!

Re: Opinion on the New Nirvana In Utero 30th Anniversary box sets
I look forward to the 40th anniversary boxset in 2033 where they dredge up a couple half-finished demos, some more soundboard recordings, throw them in a cardboard box and slap on a $250 price tag.
Both this and the Nevermind 30th a couple years ago just feel like horrible cash grabs with diminishing returns. Nothing in this is compelling enough for me to consider a double-dip after the 2013 super deluxe (or I guess, technically triple-dip since I bought In Utero in 1994).
I was fairly active in the bootleg trading scene in the 90s, and I voraciously consumed even more once P2P sharing became a thing in the early 00s, but the prospect of getting even more live Nirvana--especially from the OK at best 1994 leg of the tour--just doesn't do anything for me anymore. I'm content with the Live & Loud soundboard from the 2013 boxset.
