Hard to say! It looks very small to be the original hex nut, but maybe it’s a repair? Better photo, more light will help.

Re: Welcoming thread for my NBD - Squier Musicmaster Vista
So, here is the list of issues…
The G string tuner tulip is loose and it rattles. It is loose where the tulip attaches to the tuner assembly. When hitting a string you can hear a rattle. I either need a new tuner, or for the bkue loctite drop I added to it to harden to stop the rattle.
The trusss rod issue, im still puzzled as i think i recall the last Musicmaster bass i had had the same thing going on, that being said, that was at a time where truss rods were taboo to me.
Nothing else…

Beautiful. Vista series is legit. I had a Vista Jagmaster that I bought for $299 at Sam Ash on Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles. This was in 2016… they mistook it for a Chinese Jagmaster and sold it to me dirt cheap lol.

I think these ones are Chinese actually - or at least Taiwanese, I know there are … views on whether that’s China. But not MIJ anyway.

There were Japanese Jagmasters, but no Japanese Musicmasters basses.
So yeah China, was/is the factory in Taiwan? I really dont know the backstory if there is one… well I do, about China and Taiwan, but not Fender Taiwan..

I don’t get the sense that there’s anything wrong with that truss nut. The hex looks defined enough. Probably more a case of just not having the right fitting key.

Sorted out the tuner issue. The gear was upside down. I disassembled it, and noticed. Put it back, rattling is gone.
I put a couple of shims too. Plays nice, the neck is relatively straight but I wish I could turn the truss rod to make it a bit flatter. Speaking of it, here are the pics. Probably as best as I can do with my limited equipment / skill.

Fascinating. I still think that is a hex bit lodged in there, because why would the *outside* of the truss rod nut be hexagonal? It needs to be round to turn smoothly.

A puzzle for sure. I'd push a blob of plasticene or blu-tack down there to see what shape it comes out.
