I just found these videos that Guitar Village in the UK did with RM almost a year ago. In this one he goes into detail about transistors.

Ooh, amazing. Thank you!
This is super relevant for a project/business idea I’ve been playing with

I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

Re: Learn about transistors with Roger Mayer
I like that he dispels the “magical transistor” myth and that it’s not about whether it says NTK or TI or RCA on the label, but what the hFE measurement is and how that relates to the rest of the circuit.
It also sounds like both he and Jimi Hendrix preferred silicon over germanium transistors in the Fuzz Face circuit. Mostly because they are more reliable, but also because Jimi wanted to cut through the mix more than he wanted glassy clean up, despite modern tone chasers preferring the opposite.
