Yes, absolutely. Great speaker.

If you're not loving the breakup, the thing that helped me the most was getting the voltages down like in the older ones, an idea my tech had. Sounds and feels way better now. That was actually the thing that made me love that amp again, I was thinking about letting it go. It breaks up a bit earlier now as well.
Also, Fender famously biases their amps pretty cold as to prolong tube life. If you can get the bias up to spec according to the 6V6s you use you'll hear a change for the better as well.

But the GA Eminence speakers are great. I think I reported on my findings in this thread before, but there seem to be a couple Princeton-themed threads right now and I get confused. It's absolutely the best speaker I had in there.

Been a while but I always put Weber 10F125 speakers in my fender princetons. Light dope, 30 watts for a little extra headroom. They sound great!

if you want "headroom" you probably want to look at the sensitivity rating rather than watts.

I believe it’s the style of cone. Both are great in a PR. I can confirm!

Yep I have the 10F150 but it doesn’t say “T”, idk what’s that designation? Do you?

There are a few designations - What’s in a name - tedweber.com

• 10[A/F]150 – no letter – punchy, warm, has a nice balance between low and high (low end is strong) and is a very general-purpose cone
• 10[A/F]150-O – “original” style smooth cone for early breakup and low detail
• 10[A/F]150P – “pup”, as in the same cone that is used on our Blue Pup. bright and chimey, mix of american and british sounds, though decidedly more british. high headroom.
• 10[A/F]150H – hemp cone, very soft material, darker, warmer, foggy and less focused. Hemp’s longer fibers give treble notes a sub-harmonic richness that warms the sound. great for that hazy stoner metal thing where articulation isn’t the objective. it cuts the treble, but it also affects the overall response and feel to be more squishy.
• 10[A/F]150T – accentuates treble and headroom. adds articulation. (this is the same cone as the standard 10A125)

Okay Princeton (amp) nerds... I know this place is swarming with you as it's the unofficial but almost official "smallish" amp of a few dozen long time OSGers.

My Princeton Silverface is starting to get that flubby bass sound when you hit just about any note on the low E string. If I dial the bass knob back to like 1 or 2 then it goes away. Now this particular amp has a stronger bass presence than many of its fellow siblings. When I tried it out next another SF Princeton in the shop the one I chose was WAY beefier. Why you ask? Because it has a Celestion gold speaker in it which seemed to have given it this extra oomph.

Question for you all: tips to diagnose issue? Replace speaker? Just another Celestion? Any other ideas?

I'm not really wed to that speaker and even the extra bit of bass flavor yet I suppose it's nice. I think I'm intrigued with the idea of a more efficient speaker as I'm pretty much a drive/distortion/fuzz with pedals only kind of player.

Thanks for this post I been having the same issue with my 68RI and I haven't being able to figure it out! But reading all the comments make so much sense! I love the tone of the Princeton but the bass issue drives me insane, I noticed this is a recurrent issue with all the Princeton. I guess I will need to invest in a new speaker soon.

It wasn't caused by the speaker though?

Well I found out what the issue was.

A week ago I messed with the settings of my Boss Re-202 pedal. For anyone that doesn’t know, the original Roland Re-201 Space Echo had a preamp that was always on, and I remember it sounded decent with an amp I was using at the time.

With the new digital version it only engages when the pedal is active, but I changed the setting to be ‘always on.’ So yeah. [I have two amps on top of each other that I often switch between so I didn’t notice this right away]

I turned the pedal preamp thing off and will give it a few more days to make sure. Glad I can still be a numbskull decades into playing.

Thanks! I will try to record the issue this week and post it here.

For a while, I thought the problem was the grill rattling against the chassis or cabinet. I used a makeshift plastic shim, which helped somewhat, but the rattling continues when I play a low E. Some people have suggested that the issue might be related to the tubes or speakers. A technician I spoke with over the phone advised me to try swapping the speaker with another amp before committing to any paid service, which I plan to do.

Mojotone MP10-R if you can find one! It's the same speaker as the blue frames in the early tweed Bassman reissues. I love mine.

I came here to say Celestion Gold before watching that video. I like how it compared to the rest.

I just put a 12” celestion gold in my DR and I’m so happy.

I have a Mojo kit PR here for repair that has a new Jensen P10R in it. I hate it tbh.
