My band, Mouser, just released our 4th record.
Today is release day for my bands latest effort. This is our 4th release in just over 2 years (yeah, we're pretty industrious).
As always we did the whole thing in our own rehearsal space with our own equipment. Recorded in one 10am-10pm session, all in the same room as each other. We have a decent compliment of mics and our own desk and have pretty much found the best way to track ourselves (live, no click) and positioning things in the room for isolation. The main thing being eliminating the bass amp as that gets into every mic in a 1mile radius
Guitars used were my AO60s Tele, MIJ JM and '56 LP split into the Balls Ballsmom 50 and my Orange AD5, no pedals at all. Bass was a Jaguar bass into some kind of SVT plugin, drums are Gretsch/Slingerland/Paiste.
We took things in a less pop-punk/power pop direction this time and more hinting at late-90s/early-00's UK emo, but with our usual jangly stuff going on. In general, a slightly slower than usual album. I think my favourites are the first and last tracks but, hey, I wrote them all so should like them really. I'm the idiot on guitar and main vocals.

If you get 23 minutes spare, I hope you enjoy it.

Mic's used (if anyone cares):
Gtr amp 1: Heil PR30 & U87 Clone
Gtr amp 2: Heil PR30 & C414 Clone
Bass: DI
Snare: SM57
Kick: Beta 52A in hole & Beta 91A inside
Rack tom: Beta 56A
Floor tom: MD421
Overheads: C1000s
Room mics: 2x weird piezo boundary mics (that sound kinda crunchy) and a proper Neumann U87 4' straight out front
Vocals: SM7B & Neumann U87
Organ: DI
Percussion: U87
All this into some Behringer digital desk the bassist has and into a Macbook w/Logic.

I really like this. All your eps have been great to listen to- this one feels like a step-up in songwriting & production. Excellent stuff
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

Thanks Matt. Every one we've done gets a little better with the production as we refine our methods. Songwriting, well, it's been nice to explore slightly slower tempos and work more on arrangements and we tend to 'produce' as we write so when it comes to recording we know exactly what the plan is, I have all the overdubs prepared and all the backing harmonies are worked out etc. It makes it a pretty streamlined system.sal paradise wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2024 10:29 pmI really like this. All the main takes were done within 2-3 takes, overdubs were almost all single take and I think all bar one song we only needed 1 take on the vocals. A well-oiled machine.

Really enjoying this J !
Feels more sophisticated both in production and arrangements than the last ones ( which I enjoyed too!)
Inspirational work!! Wish I lived closer and Could catch you live someday!

Thanks dude. It felt like time to explore a little in what we do as I've previously been in quite 'complicated' post-rock, noise, post hardcore bands over the years and miss a little of it. I can write the 2min power-pop punk numbers all day long but they are a) more tiring to play in your 40s and b) could end up with all the records sounding the same, which isn't much fun for playing or listening
Thanks Yannis! We are particularly proud of how this one came out.

Hah! I also buy from Mouser, but didn't realise the name matching until I went to order parts again after about 6 months of the band being a thing Your amp is the main tone on all the guitars on this, it worked perfectlyDr Tony Balls wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2024 6:00 amMy electronic parts supplier, Mouser, hasnt released shit for records.

Dude I'm digging this!
The title's subject touches me deeply too, and/ as it should be talked about more often, definitely.
You just inspired me to try to write something too...

Cheers Pat. Yeah, male mental health is at its worst in living history and almost everyone I know has had someone in their life either contemplate, attempt or commit some kind of self-harm/suicide. A few of the songs were my own way of addressing this topic.
I'm glad to inspire you.

Just given this a listen. Sounds great, not super familiar with other Mouser stuff but I think this is more my speed. Check in on Your Mates, Brain Full of Weeds, and Thames Water Bellyache are my standouts on the first listen.
Now, on to the new Taylor Swift...

Thanks dude. The other stuff is mostly the same, maybe a little punkier.F15hface wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2024 11:32 amJust given this a listen. I'm playing a few times next month in your area by the way. May 12th @ Sig Brew Haggeston, 17th @ New Cross Inn & 9th June @ New Cross Inn, again. If you're about, would be cool to see you again.

Well done. Sonically I’m getting some mid 90’s Dinosaur Jr. from this. Except for this singing of course.
Brain Full of Weeds and the title track are my favorites so far.
