I just picked up a (used) Boss VE-500 as an upgrade to our aging TC voice lives (is that the plural? voice live 3 and play).
The Boss seems really cool (lots more effect options, lots more touting options, smaller, less cartoony UI, editor program, works as a USB interface - which is more than kinda cool).
It seems to produce a ton of background noise when plugged in with the XLR out. The noise persists even when the output is turned all the way down, the input is unplugged and (interestingly) even when the power is disconnected (just xlr out from an unpowered pedal). I’ve done a factory reset.
The two TC units are dead quiet in the same configurations with the same cables and power outlets.
There doesn’t appear to be noise via usb interface.
I can return it to the store (but will lose out on shipping both ways). As always with these things, there may be a reason why it was pretty cheap ($269).
Any thoughts or suggestions? (Is it even worth pursuing? FWIW We don’t use the harmony features but rather reverbs and subtle delays etc).
Thanks!
Noise check on aisle VE-500?

Thanks. Yeah, not worth fussing with repair etc. Was just trying to see if it was an outlier. (My neighbor has one to compare but is, of course, out of town until after I would have to send it back. He loves it, so I'm guessing I got a dud).
