Re: Oasis reunion
A lot of the Britpop stuff was really bad. Sounded like Herman’s Hermits with Boss DS-1s. Oasis were entertaining for a few years. Their songs follow a pretty simple pop formula and the lyrics don’t try to be particularly complex or witty so they’ve actually aged surprisingly well I think. But looking back at their “antics” in the day, I wonder if they’d still get quite the same hero status for it if they were setting out now?

Re: Oasis reunion
Indeed. They try and fail to be witty, which is ironic as Noel G can be quite amusing in interviews he gives, but we can agree that they're certainly not complex. They're also not in the least concerned with being coherent, just so long as they rhyme.
So many absolute howlers amidst Oasis lyrics are what killed their lasting appeal for me, so I guess we're diametrically opposed in that respect.

Andy Bell's back on bass, apparently.

Their lyrics don’t appeal to me much... They just wash over me a bit more without a strong reaction where a lot of other Britpop lyrics trying to make jolly pop critiques about 90s British society, I don’t really enjoy listening back to. But, thinking to stuff that was more deliberately humorous rather than just being daft like“She’s Electric”, yeah, they don’t hit the spot for me either.UlricvonCatalyst wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2024 2:09 amIndeed. Probably Zak Starkey on drums too, by the sound of things.

Re: Oasis reunion
I read somewhere that Gem Archer was likely going to return as well. Have they toured with 3 guitarists before?

Dunno about 3 guitarists but it can't hurt to try it out

Re: Oasis reunion
TBH Oasis recorded a lot of guitar parts on many of the tracks. They’d be able to find something to do! Especially if they give Bonehead some of his piano parts.PorkyPrimeCut wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 7:36 amYeah, i think he's confirmed.mynameisjonas wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 6:39 amI read somewhere that Gem Archer was likely going to return as well. Re: Oasis reunion
I must disagree. I have been revisiting a lot of the britpop stuff recently and it hold up very well IMO. Sure there's bound to be some bands that were popular that never really brought anything to the table (Menswear is one that comes to mind), but so much of that genre was really good and original. Super Furry Animals, blur, spiritualized, suede, Elastica, Pulp, Ride... It was a pretty great movement.Matthias wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2024 8:44 amA lot of the Britpop stuff was really bad. I was never the biggest oasis fan but i can definitely appreciate some of their output.
I'm sure they're going to cash in massively with this reunion.

Re: Oasis reunion
I always lumped Ride and Spiritualized in with shoegaze a little more, but not sure why I’d not really considered the overlap. Both decent but never got into them personally. There was definitely some good stuff among it all. SFA, Suede (Butler era), Pulp, Mansun and Longpigs in particular for me. I guess even a lot of the more throwaway stuff was light-hearted and fun at the time… I can see why people still enjoy it and it will be interesting to see if this does drive more of a resurgence/nostalgia thing.MKR wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2024 9:28 amI must disagree. Re: Oasis reunion
I'll preface this by saying I used to love Oasis as a child to about age 10, really nostalgic and reminds me of my family and my home life growing up in the 90s and their records being played around the kitchen.
Then I started secondary school in the early 2000s and realised it was music by meatheads for meatheads, as many other have already pointed out the same people who would beat you up for listening to other guitar music and being a ''Grunger'' (even when it was nowhere near it) in the first place were somehow also able to have the cognitive dissonance to be Oasis fans.
A colleague of mine was physically attacked unprovoked at a Liam Gallagher concert in Dublin about two months ago, he ended up in hospital with multiple skull fractures and various other injuries.
The reunion shows are going to be a bloodbath, and you'll pay through the nose to attend.

They did have a reunion a few years ago, it wasn't a success...
