Re: Chibsons on Temu
I don't see any reason they couldn't be decent, beyond the fact that they're usually marketed with images of the thing they copy instead of the real thing you're going to get. So it's sort of a scam to begin with, but Chinese factories do build decent guitars. AXL built Squiers, etc.
But I know at least one person who got a Chibson Black Beauty and had to put a lot of work and money into setting it up and changing out the hardware before it turned into something he was happy with. What you get could have decent bones, or even be a decent guitar as in the case of that V. I guess it's more the whole marketing scam aspect of it I have something against.

yea...this is true...it's a risk. Seems like I'm better off saving up for a Jazzmaster HH or SG special.

Ha! This is so true!s_mcsleazy wrote: ↑Sat Dec 28, 2024 1:08 pmcan i be honest. i sometimes think the only reason websites like temu and aliexpress exist is for youtubers to make videos like "OMG I BOUGHT A GUITAR FROM TEMU!!!! (not clickbait)"
The crazier the thumbnail cover of the video the more clickbait it will be. I just don't get it.

If you want to buy firewood, I mean I guess so. Not sure if burning it is a great use of the wood. Probably not good to breathe that stuff in

Re: Chibsons on Temu
If you buy a Temu Chibson, the only thing keeping them from sending you particle board with no truss rod and the crappiest $1.99 Strat pickups inside HB covers is the seller's sense of doing right by their customers. And by selling cheap Temu fakes, they're letting you know they're pretty morally flexible. I've seen fakes that were passable at a glance, and I've seen some that were guitar-shaped-objects never meant to be playable.
Why not a used Epiphone? They actually have solid QC, and while people love to fritter with them and upgrade, they're meant to be useable right out of the box. I'm seeing dozens of LP's under 500 bucks on Reverb, and you have recourse purchasing there beyond "Don't buy cheap fake shit lol - Temu Care Team".

I also tend to believe in the importance of intellectual copyright which is why I don't pirate software, music or programming and I don't buy imitation guitars.
The electric guitar market fucking sucks for a lot of reasons, and this is one right here.
You want a Les Paul, but you don't want to pay for it. That's the internal friction that makes it possible for a company like Temu to make a garbage fake version of it.
But we can see that Temu can make an electric guitar, why don't they make their own exciting product and change the world of the electric guitar again, just like Gibson did with the Les Paul?
Because you want a Les Paul... you just don't want to pay for it.
So if you think you are striking a blow against greedy old Gibson and their overpriced guitars, you really aren't, because at the end of the day it's your want for a Les Paul that makes Temu have to crank out bad imitations. You are the one driving the market.

I agree with buying an Epiphone instead. You can get them with proper headstocks now, under the Inspired by Gibson Custom line-up.
I’ve played a bunch of them in store recently, including their acoustic offerings, and they’re VERY well done.

I bought one of the Epiphone "Inspired by Gibson" Les Pauls a year ago and I love it.
It is all the Les Paul I ever dreamed of.
I could in no way afford a real Gibson and I doubt it would be any better.

it's like the ai stuff. people typing into some algorithm scrape-averager "what if the mona lisa had huge boobs," "what if freddie mercury sang in bloom," "what if a company could make and sell a 'gibson' 'les paul' for a couple of hundred dollars?" the result is something that is qualitatively uncanny at best and repulsive at worst.

+1 for Epiphone.
I bought one of those metallic pink Les Paul 'Muse' things and it has no right being as good as it is.

Lots of moral high ground here.....very interesting. All I know is my work friend got one “the randy roads” Sandalval V, it was pretty cool. Would I get one??. I dunno.

As far as it "nOt beInG a lES pauL" I mean, guitars are wood, some finish, strings... that's it. The rest is marketing bullshit, "plAy auThenTIC" and stuff.
If you like the looks and is aware that it might not be exactly as advertised, go for it, have fun.

Re: Chibsons on Temu
very tempting on the Greeny LP and the aged Randy LP....the youtube videos are mostly in two camps:
1. Aged guitar council of the cloven elders poo pooing everything wrong with the guitar....
2. Slightly less aged long haired guy in his man cave saying it's almost good.

And probably a bunch of middle-aged people that never post videos who hope for Epiphone quality, which itself hasn't even been very consistent lately.budda12ax7 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 16, 2025 5:36 pmvery tempting on the Greeny LP and the aged Randy LP....the youtube videos are mostly in two camps:
