Re: School Me: Telemaster origin story
It’s the contrast of the headstock to the body that makes it work for me. It’s definitely the pickguard that doesn’t for me. Man. This one rocks it. Never heard of seen Deluxe or Customaster before. Brilliant. I can’t discount how much the vibrato helps though.
I started this post before I read through it all. Other ones with a proper pickguard that tie it all together like the Dude’s rug.

Re: School Me: Telemaster origin story
Ah I see. Still I couldn't justify having two similar guitars both with neck pickups either, even if one is hidden....however my Jaguar isn't my main guitar, so I just like one that is mostly the traditional type.
Can't really justify buying a Jazzmaster either (I'm trying to sell off some excess guitars as it is!). I do have a spare Telecaster/Partscaster that isn't worth much, hence the Jazzmaster neck pickup idea, kind of similar to the subject of this thread, just in a more traditional Tele shape body. Been watching a few videos, but so far not found one that compares a regular Tele neck pickup version to the JM neck pickup, which makes it harder to tell if it's worth the effort/cost to try.

I really like the idea of them (although I'm mixed race myself, so maybe I'm biased
) and would happily own one, but having a Tele and a Jazzmaster already, I'm pretty much sorted. Doesn't stop me from looking at them on Thomann or Reverb or wherever!

So... I feel the need to find a Telemaster/Jazzcaster/Offset Tele body already painted in a fun color. Everything I keep finding is OlyWhite, black, Sonic Blue (already have a Sonic Blue Tele), the occasional IBM Squier body, or a crazy purple/green flipflop (which I feel is a bit excessive for me right now). OTM or SGM would be cool.

Vinyl-wrap an olympic white version. When you get tired of that color of vinyl-wrap, vinyl-wrap it in another color. Can do with a hair dryer and under $20 of automotive vinyl wrap.
Never actually been ashamed to say I was an American.
Until now.

Speaking of fender being “influenced” by osg, I’m pretty sure fender lifted a couple designs from ADH. He had some great designs and I’m glad I got to own a couple of his concepts.

Re: School Me: Telemaster origin story
The absolute legend & hero that is @mattk sent me a neck all the way from Australia to stick on my thrown together telemaster. Need to get a neck plate & screws, but it’ll be ready to rock in no time

I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

Just reading over this thread again and I realized that this is the most OSG photo. If someone asked me to describe the vibe here, I'd be like, if you don't love everything happening in this pic, please move along.

Re: School Me: Telemaster origin story
This very much reminds me of the earlier days of OSG, these kinda SY-esque mashups and that whole aesthetic were daily scenes 15 years ago - I see far less stickers on guitars for instance. Things have definitely got more pedestrian in nature. But offsets are 100% mainstream now so it's to be expected

Re: School Me: Telemaster origin story
Much as I loved coming up with the concepts of those guitars, maintaining a fleet that large and feeling guilty about guitars going unplayed made it untenable. Were I willing to learn more of the build process it could have been cool to build and sell like ADH or nicsurreal, but I’m glad to see copaceticcustoms carrying the torch for “what if…” designs.

Re: School Me: Telemaster origin story
That’s gorgeous.

Makes me wonder if an OG b-bender would work in there. Gets the gas gears spinning. Hmmm
