I thought they all did, as per the original vintage specs.ryandennis wrote: ↑Sun Mar 02, 2025 2:31 amDo any of these guitars come without the poly undercoat? I know the new AVRIs have them and that has always been a big decision on why I have built my own instead to avoid that. I believe I read the AV65's didn't before?

AV's from 2013-2017 didn't come with an undercoat (thus defacto being ThinSkin's). Fender got a lot of complaints and warranty-claims from the very brittle and flakey finish, hence why they reverted to the poly undercoat for the American Original and subsequent reissues.

The AVRI era thin skins had big frets, which I hated on the Jaguar I had (but were pretty and well made)

I know the AVII '66s didn't have the smoothest launch, but since they swapped over to the CBS headstock, I've worked on 5+ of them now and own one and they've been consistently on the lighter weight side of things, didn't need much or any at all with regards to fret / nut work, and with a good setup and...if you want, some minor upgrades (like the bridge) - they play and sound great. I agree that the AV65 is also my favorite of the AV line but this comes in at a close second for me. I love the slightly slimmer / flatter back profile on the neck especially. It's a real highlight of the series imo

Agreed on the neck profile - I liked that very much on the '66 AVII I had. It also sounded really good. Mine wasn't very light though

I love that we're just running with the conversation, despite the OP being a spambot
