NGD - CS '66 Dakota Red Jaguar

Post by sonicmander » Sat Mar 22, 2025 11:12 am

Absolute dream guitar, by far the biggest leap in a guitar purchase I've ever made. This is a custom shop '66 Jaguar in Journeyman relic Dakota Red.
Basically it was sitting at my local music store where a friend of mine has worked since I was in HS, and he offered to cut me a deal on it. When I went to play it and the neck pickup was dead! We ended up agreeing on a great price that made it possible for me to afford and swapping in a Duncan Antiquity II in the neck! Fender CS said 90 days for a new neck pickup which I may drop in but I also quite like the Antiquity. The Bridge pup screams and is definitely wound hotter than vintage. everything else about it exactly how I would design an offset. I'm typically not into relics but the broken in neck really feels amazing, the specs list it as a '62 profile and the binding adds the perfect shoulder! I'll be sure to add my share of dings and scratches as well.
This is the first offset i've played where the strings don't jump out of the vintage allthread bridge, don't really see a need to swap it, I've never tried an RSD bridge so I don't feel i'm missing out either. I reached out to Mike Adams for advice on the setup when I was getting ready to buy this so thank you if you see this :)
Really stoked, feels like a dream still to own this one.

Not one to usually name guitars but since we got it after St. Patricks day my wife suggested Flannery which suits this great

Cool! Enjoy it in good health.

What pickups are (were) in it?

Gorgeous! Lok at that rich, blood-like red! We need more dakota red guitars (that are not mustangs). IMHO Dakota>CAR>Fiesta. Happy NGD!

Thank you! The build sheet just says CS vintage Jaguar pickups, it’s really odd the neck died, I guess just a freak accident? I think it makes the guitar a little more unique having the mismatched pickups!

Thanks so much! I used to think Fiesta was my favorite but now I completely agree with you! Dakota red has really grown on me, it’s so rich and compliments a tortoise guard perfectly

we don’t see enough red offsets!

Really appreciate it guys, it’s surreal to call this one mine. Credit to this forum for the offset obsession, it’s a great problem to have

A nice parchment guitar would do this guitar (and colour) some well deserved contrast and justice!

I was also thinking about going crazy and trying a gold anodized aluminum pickguard, love those on red JM's but not sure how it would look with the chrome control plates?
