Would you be willing to post a pic or two?
I can't readily find a picture for this, but I can find a video I made for this many moons ago back in my Youtube heavy days which has some really good closeups and a full explaination of what I did. The bridge part starts around 5:30 into the video.
Someday I've got to cut a new HD version of my jaguar setup. Same stuff, but I've got much better production quality capabilities than I did back in those days.

Ah, thanks! That makes more sense now that I see it. Thanks for clarifying.

I was playing 11 and 12s. Recently even went to 13s. But even tuned cgdgcd it feels a bit tight on tension. These were d addario chromes 13s. So maybe I'll go back to 12s. This was on a jm jm squier
same as it ever was

at gc in times square they have a BEAUTIFUL sonic blue jaguar. it's got 9s on it. it is setup to play with 9s. normally I'd be the first to wield a torch and pitchfork for putting 9s on a jag or jm, but it honestly played very well.
so sure. why not. use 9s if you like them. try 10s first because they feel really lightweight on a jaguar or jazzmaster as everyone else has said, but you can always go back to 9.

I use 9 gauge strings on a Jazzmaster because mine has a slotted headstock which puts the strings at a sharper angle over the nut

It's not the nut angle that's the issue, it's the other end.
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

This is a resurrected thread from the “Before Times” in the offset world. I think Fender generally makes all (almost all?) of their offsets with angled neck pockets now so that people can use whatever gauges they want. You can still play 9s on an offset without an angled neck pocket - you just need to understand the geometry and set it up accordingly (and have some shims on hand).
With that being said, I would actually rather have a flat neck pocket and dial in the angle as necessary rather than having to *dial out* the heavy handed angle of the neck pocket.
