Re: Maybe Unnecessary Project (Cobain Jaguar)
Here is version 2.0. I moved the neck pickup a little more north and I am also using what I understand to be an AVRI template as the main pickguard shape. I deleted the screw to the left of the upper humbucker since the ring is so close.

Decided to go a different rout with the body.
I also have a stop tail Squier coming in that I will use the black guard on.

Re: Maybe Unnecessary Project (Cobain Jaguar)
A detour in this project. Decided to use a white MJT body instead of the Squire one. I will still likely build one out of that body, but I will need a guard made for pickguard mounted pickups instead of ring mounted because I took a little too much wood off. No biggie. I bought a humbucker routing template and a small bit with a bearing to do the job and it worked pretty well for my first time.

Parts sit on it well. Once the wires I ordered come in, I can do all the electrical stuff and screw it all down.

Re: Maybe Unnecessary Project (Cobain Jaguar)
Got the bodied wired up. I need to switch to simpler guitars. Between these Jaguars and the Marauder, I am going through tons of feet of wire going to too many switches.... LOL

Then I got the guard mounted so I could get the pickup rings mounted and did the plates last.

I am pretty happy with the pickup spacing. I don't think I would want the neck pickup ring any further up. It is almost by the bevel edge.

The bridge could go a couple mm more towards the bridge, but I am ok with how it turned out.

Spreading them out looks better visually to me. It isn't a lot of movement, but it makes a difference to me.

Also the finish reacted to my office chair it sat on for awhile..... Interesting pattern I guess? LOL

Neck came in. This one is getting the strat headstock. They are Warmoth necks.
I applied Stewmac Vintage Amber dye mixed with IPA. Later today I will add some maple stain to the necks to darken them a bit.

Re: Maybe Unnecessary Project (Cobain Jaguar)
love this. still kind of want one.. though it doesn't offer much that any of my other guitars don't already offer... got lots of humbuckers already...
but... my love for Cobain since I was a kid makes me want one...

Re: Maybe Unnecessary Project (Cobain Jaguar)
I know what you mean. I have WAY more guitars than I really need, but I enjoy putting them together, so that is what I do.
I have slowed down a little from how I have been build wise. I used to do two or three guitars a month. While I still have three or so I am working on at a time, it often is taking me several months to work through them now instead of just a few weeks. LOL

Re: Maybe Unnecessary Project (Cobain Jaguar)
Got tuners loaded on the neck and got the neck mounted. The 1 degree shim isn't near enough. Even with a credit card shim on top of it, the action is too high so I ordered another 1 degree shim and a .5 degree one just in case. LOL It also needs the string tree installed, but it is looking like a guitar finally!

I love it. It looks like a cobain-sonic youth love child being white instead of sunburst!
