My Humble Contribution

Post by nikkij » Thu May 01, 2025 6:09 pm

Hey y'all - here is my humble contribution to the collective OSG quiver: a Tomson "Splendor Series" Special Model - a.k.a. an early-1970s knockoff of a Fender Mustang.

It's chipped, it's corroded, it's rusty, and the action is approximately 3" high, and probably my favourite tremolo system of all time - despite its jankiness. Absolutely my favourite guitar to play.

I don't know much (if anything) about Tomson as a brand, or about this model in particular - if anyone has any fun facts or cool stories about Tomsons, I'd love to hear them. And if you own one, post pics!

Heh! Yeah that's a budget Suzuki line (maybe Japanese domestic?) from the 70s. Awesome fun. The combination of a Mustang body and a Gibson scale neck makes it longer than a Strat, which is weird. I got one a few years ago in much worse shape than that, but after some remedial work on the neck joint it came up pretty well.

Woow, that vibrato looks cool! reminds me of Musimas and Hofners from the 60s.

I have never seen one of those! I dig that trem system. Have you tried adjusting the trussrod or neck shims? Could help with the high action.
