i know the better comparison would be 212 v. ac30 but i can only really afford to trade my deville and pay like 100 -150 for a ac15 with a redcoat speaker (i think?)
what are the pros and cons of this. i know i am losing volume and power. but the deville just sounds so bland no character. i lked the ac15 in the shop but how will it hold up rehearsing? what do you think? or is it worth saving up to get the behemoth ac30

Yes... It is worth saving up. What do you normally run the deville at, and what's going into it? You have a pretty versatile amp right now that you can color up with pedals. I love vox. My fave is the AC30, but I'd keep what I got, maybe talk to some folks who have done speaker swaps, tube swaps, even mods, before getting a 15. Great amp. But it's not very versatile. Maybe start here... http://studentweb.eku.edu/justin_holton/ Some deville knowledgeable folks are to be found there.warreng wrote: i know the better comparison would be 212 v. ac30 but i can only really afford to trade my deville and pay like 100 -150 for a ac15 with a redcoat speaker (i think?)

i run the deville live at around 4-5.5. its very clean but, i dunno. i really like that Vox sound. and the tremolo isnt too bad either
my current gigging setup:
2003ish Jazzmaster (OTM) AVRI
1997 Tele Plus (the one with three pickups)
1997 Strat Plus Deluxe, or something (lace sensors, humbucker in bridge, ebony fretboard)
into:
Teese RMC 1 wah>Analogman Beano Boost> Fulltone FullDrive 2>Keeley Compressor> Univibe>Boss Phaser>Boss DD5>Boss Tuner> Danelectro Reel Echo
i really want a carbon copy and a fulltone deja vibe 2. but thats what i am currently running

Well, as you know you're just starting to wind up that amp at the 4-5 range... Are you looking for strictly a rehearsal amp or for shows or just for home? If you like your Deville for shows but it feels dead at rehearsals, well yeah. It's gonna. If you dont' really play shows and it's just for fun with friends and at home, then maybe a smaller amp you could really stretch out at 7 or above would be a better choice for you. You'll never get an argument from me against the vox sound. Like I said, the AC30 is my favorite alltimer. If I had a 15 I'm sure it would be in a neck and neck race.
I just picked up a silverface fender champ because I didn't have any tube amps I could turn up past 4 at home without complaints... I love it. In the $300 range, and you get that pushed tube tone without hearing sirens
It's a third the wattage of and AC15 though...
