1966 Fender Bandmaster
1966 Fender Bandmaster
How do these sound? Compared to other Fenders i mean. What are they similar to? There's one for sale on the Norwegian equivalent of Craiglist.

Mine has the clearest tone I've ever gotten, also sounds great when overdriven. I'm not sure what they are comparable to but it's definitely got a clearer tone than I've ever gotten with my Silverface Twin.

mine's a '65 and i think it's great. it's got a crisp, sparkly sound and overdrives quite nicely when you jump the channels together. it sounds amazing with my jaguar.
my only complaint is that it's not loud enough for me. it's definitely gigable and such, but i really like loud amps. so eventually i'm gonna work my way up to a showman. or an orange.
i'm sure you won't regret getting one.

if my new (old) BF bassman is any indication, investing in one of these is a great idea. super clean tones, OD at an accessible volume.bubbles_horwitz wrote: my only complaint is that it's not loud enough for me. it's definitely gigable and such, but i really like loud amps. so eventually i'm gonna work my way up to a showman. or an orange.

i do sometimes wish for more headroom, though, and the bandmaster probably has less than the bassman. so, at band volumes, you should probably be prepared for a little crunch.
but, man, do those old fenders sound good.

Re: 1966 Fender Bandmaster
Mine (my first amp ever!) was modded in the 70s with a bigger OT (4 6l6s) so it's more like a showman. That said: they sound great and are the last BF bargain, I think.
If it's a reasonable price (say: ca. $400 or so) I'd grab it. It'll be more expensive overseas.
If you can live w/o reverb (or pickup a vanamps reverb pedal) you'll be fine.

Re: 1966 Fender Bandmaster
They are nice amps imo. But even better when the OT is replaced with a Bassman one.
I find the original Bandmaster OT to weak to really push the speakers.
But then again, I like Tremoluxes even better....
