That's what I'm hoping... Anyway, I'll probably get the mod kit later on down the road, just for fun and for the "recordability" of the amp. Is that a word?

I need a 1x10 EXACTLY like that. I don't want to build anything though regardless of how simple it is. Any suggestions Dave?davelowell wrote:![]()

Here it is. I put in a port and an Eminence Basslite speaker, no tweeter.
I used a bass speaker so I can use the cab with basses and guitars. I can give you more specific info on the speaker and port if you want.

So what's the technique? Play for awhile, unplug the power cord, keep playing for about 5 minutes?
Discharging caps is pretty easy, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just be sure to be careful. I've heard a stock one and it was a little muddy sounding but for $100... I doubt you could beat it.
If it's that easy, I can handle it. I have some new tubes and a mod kit coming with a standby switch, high gain switch, and bright switch.
Thanks in advance!

Discharging caps.
Solder one end of 100 ohm, 2-10watt resistor to a well insulated clip lead about 2-3 feet long. *soldered - not just wrapped*
Solder the other end of the resistor well insulated contact point such as a 2 inch length of bare #14 copper wire mounted on the end of a 2 foot piece of PVC or Plexiglas rod which will act as an extension handle.
Secure everything to the insulating rod with some plastic electrical tape.
This discharge tool will keep you safely clear of the danger area.
Always double check with a reliable voltmeter or by shorting with an insulated screwdriver!
and ALAWYS keep one hand in your pocket.

That seems like more than I am comfortable with... Damn! I think I got shocked reading it... Well, the mods shouldn't take more than 2 hours, so I gotta look for a tech.

FWIW I do the play while unplugging the amp thing but I always check the B+ voltage with a volt meter before going in to make sure all the electricity is drained. If you don't already have a volt meter you can pick one up that can take up to 600v for as little as $20 give or take.

Yeah you can do that... Also to be safe make sure the amp has been off for like say 20 minutes (unplugged, switch on) before you work on it. That'll help to make sure the caps have drained.
Also, when checking live voltages, always try to probe with one hand. you can usually stick one of the test points in a hole or nut in the chassis for ground. keep your other hand in your pocket.

This really sounds like more than I'm comfortable with. I would just shake myself silly with fright and anticipation the whole time. I don't even know what B+, 600v, 100ohm 10watts resistors mean.
Anyone in or near St. Louis wanna have a whack at some mods?

BTW... highest voltage in this amp would be prolly 375volts DC. as long as you don't grab the amp with both hands when it's turned on and opened up you will be fine.
There are a few really good books on this. Inside Tube Amps (Dan Torres) Dave Funk's book (Tube AMp Workbnook) also I can dig up some online stuff too. That's how I learned.
The best way to start is to get a kit and build that.
