sad part is I can remember when you could get those for $400 and they were all over the place

A friend of mine has that exact guitar! And it's in really great shape, with case and all just about like the one pictured. I think he was telling me that it was maybe a couple of years older than 1971, though. Oh, and he got it for under 1k... crazy, huh?

That's the guitar I was gonna get if I couldn't find a neck for my Jazzmaster. I thought it was green to begin with. I think now that the one I saw was blue but the colour had aged to a greeny/blue.
Dunno if it's still there but they had an identical one for sale on Denmark Street. Can't remember which shop. It was in the window.
This (for some reason) is the longest http address I've ever seen!! Its a great link though. Very detailed images of Red, Blue & Orange competition Mustangs. Drool, drool!!! My mates got the Orange one.

You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.

I took delivery of this guitar and amp yesterday.I've been waiting for one of these in good shape (not green, not checked, not fretless and grooved) to present itself for quite a while and, oddly enough, nearly purchased a Vibrochamp a few weeks ago. I couldn't resist. I mean really, look at the damn things.

That's fantastic. It always makes me happy when a killer guitar goes to one of the members.

BEAUTIFUL!!
Under $400?
You must be very young. ;-)
I got my '69 Competition Orange for $60.00 in 1982, the matching Bass for $235 in 1986...and THAT was top-dollar for that Bass at the time!
Looks as if the set you got was bought new for a kid who lost interest before he even started!
Look at the tolex on the amp! ENJOY THEM!
I have a gig tonight, and this thread made me decide to leave the Reverend guitar home and take the Mustang.
I bought a 40th Anniversary TRRI today (BLONDE!!!). It'll be fun. YES!!!!!
Competition Stripes make them play FASTER.

when I bought my first offset I could have gotten a 63 jag in great shape for $700 or the MIJ jazzmaster (which I still own) for $750. I really can't say why I didn't get the jag... that was back in 94

Competition Red. I don't think it's any different from CAR, but I could be wrong.
