you guys have any ideas to cut off the hum a little bit? or is it a hopeless battle we will all have to learn to embrace?

Well he already said it, but yeah, allparts guard, not vintage. They're similar if not the same as the ones usually found on early mij/cij guitars.
if you're referring to the bright red guards on older MIJ models you're wrong, allparts guards look a lot better than those.

Agreed.

Of all the reproductions I've seen, the Allparts guards get the closest to the original tortoise shell.

I am SO glad that this thread came along.  I don't think I ever would have checked with them.
