Am I gonna switch amp?

I'm recently playing my offsets through one 1975 SF Twin Reverb and one Marshall 1973 super lead 50 head w/Orange 4X12 cabinet.
I was wondering if a Vox ac50 head would make my sound a little more singled out. I feel sometimes that the Marshall is too "nice" sounding... :-\

Has anyone of you guys tried the AC50 with your offsets??

A Marshall too nice sounding? That might be the first time I've heard that one. Can you be more specific about what kind of sound you're going for? Though I've never used one, I would expect an AC50 to be a fairly similar circuit to a Marshall and use the same tube compliment.

Yes, well it didn't come out quite right..

Don't get me wrong , I really love the Marshall sound but I tend to boost the mids all the time to get closer to the sound I'm after.
Yeah, that's it. I'd like to have a more mid-ish kind of sound.

Generally, Vox = chime = high mids .. although I have no experience with the AC50 I imagine it sounds typically Voxy. I have a Vox AC15 and love it with JMs. If you're going to be trying out other amps, definitely put a Vox on your "to try out" list.

You might also want to try a Bedrock BC-75 if you can find one. My 65 JM sounds great through mine and as posted earlier I kept it over a Matchless Cheiftain. Do not laugh but another inexpensive amp that is awesom is the Peavey Delta Blues with 2 X12's.

It sounds to me like what you might be after could be easily solved by a change in speakers moreso then a change in amps.

I wouldn't laugh at all regarding that selection. The Peavey classic and Delta Blues amps are some of the best on the market. You get tweed and smooth overdrive in one amp. I don't care for the tremelo in the DB210, though.

They are very smooth sounding amps. I'd go with the 2x12 classic or the 2x10 DB. Great amps!

You might try a rangemaster or a Beeno Boost in front of your Marshall. Cheaper than a new amp and very useful.

Yeah, I 'm thinking of buying the tri-boost (I think it's called) from "Build your own clone" but I live in Sweden and they only seem to ship to UK the Netherlands in Europe.

Do you guys have any experience dealing with them?

BYOC is great! They are friendly and reply quickly to any email.
As for the quality of the product, it is quite good. Unfortunately, I've not owned some of the originals they clone, but phase 90 and the delay are nice pedals in their own right.

I love BYOC and I would order their whole product line if I had the money, so far I've built two of their kits. They are really easy to build, and the product support is great. I've also built a Weber Cattledrive which I would also recommend, since they are so cheap and really easy to do as a first build.

my bandmate has had two AC50s over the years, and they sound great. i think i know what you mean by the marshall being too nice, and i think an AC50 would be a good choice. they can be dialed to sound fairly similar to a 50w super lead, but the EQ is way more responsive. the marshall will sound like a marshall no matter how you dial the EQ knobs but the vox can totally change character with just a tiny tweak.
you really should try one out if you get the chance.
