Re: Keyboard/synthesizer
Any keyboard/piano from toys r us would be cool, thats where I'm heading this week.
All ya do is put a out put jack where the speaker is and plug it into your effects chain.
Let me say,it's very interesting!
Even better,thrift stores.

bump
I'm buying an Alesis Micron real soon, hopefully I'll have one by the end of this week. When I noticed it being used in CSS's Alala: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boutyHncNiY I finally made a decision (and it's my 20th birthday tomorrow, so I have something to spend).
thank you all for your advice!

Re: Keyboard/synthesizer
I guess i'm a little late to help on this one. But i would jump in and suggest the Novation K-station, 2 octaves of volocity sencitive keys a ton of continuous controllers on the face of it. A good price point, i think you can get them used for near 200$ american. And it has a some what cool effects processor built in.
Also, I have a micron, but i honestly dont dig it too much for what i am doing right now. I have also had an MS-2000 from korg wich shares the same sound engine as the microKorg, and i though it was pretty cool. Although for me having full sized keys and lots of continuous controllers on the top panel would push me in that direction.
As a side note, you asked about guitar effects on a keyboard, The keyboard player in my band has a fx pedal board that rivals mine, and he uses it to great effect.

Yes, Dave does make some noises along with the rest of youGw10101 wrote: As a side note, you asked about guitar effects on a keyboard, The keyboard player in my band has a fx pedal board that rivals mine, and he uses it to great effect.

On all my Jazzblaster stuff I use a $99 yamaha kbd through guitar fx. I like the kbd parts to sound a bit less conventional.

Re: Keyboard/synthesizer
I picked it up yesterday and so far I really like it, it's got some great organ sounds and it sounds really nice with my guitar effects. I could get pretty close to Radiohead's 'Motion Picture Soundtrack' and some of Yo La Tengo's organ sounds. I also hope to be able to get a sound similar to Broadcast - Black Cat, it should be possible with the oscillator button. I haven't found out what program the girl in CSS uses to get her sound, anyone know which one it is? One thing I don't like is the fact that I haven't been able to find a normal piano simulation yet, which is odd as there are 'vintage piano' and honky-tonk piano simulations, I'd like to practice with a electric piano or just a plain piano sound.
all in all I'm pretty happy with it

Re: Keyboard/synthesizer
I'm a huge Broadcast fan too - glad the Micron worked out with you. At least on Broadcast's newer stuff they seem like rawer waveforms - just plain ole sine/sawtooth stuff. They also seem to be very fond of that SID Chip sound from the old C64/128s...Good luck!
