This thread = Best idea I've had all month.
Gretsch may have made the best single-pickup guitars 8) This thread is stellar... giving me GAS for another guitar

I like single-pickup guitars too! Here are a few I've built...

Melodycaster: a MIM Strat modded to resemble an old Gibson Melody Maker. Single red Lace Sensor. If I was talented I would have replaced the bridge w a tune-o-matic. Instead I just blocked it...

Image

Sonicguar: A Squier Duo Sonic modded to resemble a Jaguar. Single Dimarzio taken out of a Billy Corgan Strat.

so many cool guitars in this thread, the ES-300, Dano U-1, and Musicmaster being my favorites. I'm currently putting together a MM.

dude that modded MIM Strat rules. did you fill routes and refinish it? good job!

I have mixed feelings on the modding of a CV duo but I will say it does look cool. looks like those Framus Juniors posted earlier in the thread.

The strat "melodycaster" was my first attempt at doing anything to a guitar (other than ordering parts from warmoth they they customized more or less for me). The pickup routes and trem cavity were plugged w mahogany and the body was painted with krylon spray paint. It wasn't until after that project that I found threads and posts with valuable information (like sanding sealer; the one factor that made me feel like I could actually do a decent refinish a guitar). I was gonna post the story of that guitar, but figured strats are boring. I tried to sell it on eBay to fund a Jazzmaster project I just started. Didn't get one bid, w a $50 starting price. I'm on my iPhone right now, but when I get home I'll post a melodycaster thread. If you're interested you can see the pics of the step-by-step at myspace.com/andrewwritesmusic until then... Thanks
