Euro-Japanese Jazzmaster question

Post by Taylorplayer » Fri Apr 20, 2007 2:39 am

Okay I've found a bunch of custom colored Japanese Jazzmasters here in Ireland. I'm assuming thery're a couple years old hanging. There's a Surf Green one, a Burgandy mist one and a Sonic Blue one.

These were supposedly Euro only editions and I'm wondering what the body's are likely to be made of? Basswood or Alder? Possibly Ash? and was wondering if the hardware is likely to be better than that which we got in Canada a few years back.

Any and all help is appreciated.

I'm generally wary of the "Euro only" claims - while there are occasional special and/or limited runs, there aren't nearly as many as are claimed by shop owners, eBay sellers etc.

I would also doubt very seriously that there is any difference in hardware quality - it's MIJ/CIJ vs vintage vs AVRI and pretty much that's it.

i would assume they are alder and have the same hardware as other CIJs.

right on... I was more concerned about the wood than the hardware. It's much harder to replace the body :)

Crafted in Japan A + 6 DIGITS 1997-1998
Crafted in Japan O + 5 DIGITS 1997-2000
Crafted in Japan P + 5 DIGITS 1999-2002
Crafted in Japan Q + 5 DIGITS 2002-2004
Crafted in Japan R + 5 DIGITS 2004-2005

There you go, check the serials. That's from Fender's own website:
http://www.fender.com/support/dating/ja ... dating.php

Fender Japan stopped using basswood around the time they changed from MIJ to CIJ, in 1997, so if they're less than a decade old, they're alder.

To the best of my knowledge, there has never been any such thing as a UK/Europe "special edition" - I strongly suspect any claims to the contrary are the usual retail music store bullshit.

hmmm.. I read it somewhere that semed to have it's shit together, I thought it was http://fenderjazzmaster.com, but it doesn't seem to get into the Japanese stuff.

Anyway, what i read is that after Japanese Fenders were more or less pulled from the North American Market, there were some Japaese Jazzmasters offered with custom colors and matching pegheads to the European Market only.

I wish I could remember where I read it.

Anyway I'd not seen any Japanese offsets offered in Surf Green, Sonic Blue or Burgandy Mist before I walked into that shop. Does anyone have any info on these colors?
