Re: My SFG Bass VI complete!
Hey Scott. My USA Custom body is finished. I saw the charges on my card yesterday. He billed me on the 17th, so I should have the body soon. Then I have to rout all the cavities. The neck can't be far behind (I hope). I finally got a real Bass VI bridge too. Paid too dang much for it too, but I was determined not to use a JM bridge. I'm still back and forth on what color: seafoam, fiesta or daphne. I got a pint of each. It'll probably come down to the last day and I just pick up a can. I love all three, but Fiesta would be quite unique.

Re: My SFG Bass VI complete!
hey guys, is there a reason you have to route the cavities on the usacg bodies? i though they were already done the correct way, is there something i don't know?
good to see someone on the list got the vi bridge on the bay, i got the 4 switch plate, i have a feeling we were all bidding against each other. now i finally get to use my 64' jags pickups!
how long does it take to get the bodies done?
oh, and i vote for seafoam green just so you can recreate the spinal tap scene again and again and again....

Re: My SFG Bass VI complete!
Looks like USA CG bodies are meant to copy first generation Bass VIs, the one with chrome rings surrounding "$tratalike" pickups. This is sure for the neck pickup at least (I never checked for the middle and bridge) : the gap between neck heel and pickup is wider than the one to be found on the second VI generation.dain wrote: hey guys, is there a reason you have to route the cavities on the usacg bodies? i though they were already done the correct way, is there something i don't know?

Best of luck with the construction, let me know if I can help any more.
I'm getting more happy with the sound of my VI. I'm really thinking that with a good setup or maybe a fret dress, this really is The Shit.

Re: My SFG Bass VI complete!
it says on the usacg site that they make two different versions, one that models the late 60s ones (ie not the $trat pickups). does anyone know how close it is? i was really hoping to use my vintage mute on it, but i'm kinda scared to order now.

Re: My SFG Bass VI complete!
Well, I've had a number of conversations with Tommy about it and unless he's changed in the last month, he can only do routing for the first generation six. The routines for drilling and carving the body are modular. He ran the pup carving routine and it's just the strat pups it does. He doesn't have it programmed for jag pups. What I did was have a routing template out of plexi glass made by Pickguardian. Tommy isn't going to rout it for the pups and I'm going to do that with the template. I'll contact him again to see if anything has changed. If nothing has changed, you could order the template from pickguardian to do what I'm doing.

Re: My SFG Bass VI complete!
I got my body last night and was doing some test fitting of the parts without routing cavities. I posted it in another thread, but here's that link again
http://www.wizardsofaz.com/gecko/bassvibuild.html
I spoke to Tommy yesterday also about the text on his website about having both versions and he confirmed it was indeed not correct. He only has the routing programmed for a first generation six. That's why I'm having to do all the control routing myself. Gonna be fun.
That was me that got the bridge on eBay. I paid too much, but I just couldn't see using the wrong bridge. I already had a switch plate and lower control plate from an earlier foray into eBay bankruptcy. The only parts I'm really missing are the thicker shaft tuners, but everyone says standard tuners work OK. If I find the tuners as I surf the web, I'll get them if not too dear. But I'm not expending a lot of time on it.

Re: My SFG Bass VI complete!
I'm thinking of ordering one eventually, when things are better finantially for me. I think I will not be putting Jag p/ups in it. So having the Strat pickups (possibly a Hot Rails in the bridge) wouldn't be too bad of a thing for me. But that's just me..I figure I won't be owning a real Bass VI, it'd be a Tim Van Boening (that's me) Bass VI.
I think a LPB one like this one is what the doctor ordered

My only difference is I'd have the correct chrome vol and tone control plate...this one looks too much like a Strat.

Re: My SFG Bass VI complete!
I played it for the first time at a gig last night. Sounded great by all reports, and certainly had the guitar buffs intrigued! Still getiing used to size compared to a full bass, so I went on a few fretboard excursions
It's definetly a hit. I very much look forward to getting my CS VI. I might even get Curtis to work his magic for me.
