so the channels aren't phase inverted? i always thought all master volume SF fenders were... my twin was. although i could get some pretty original sounds out of it by jumpering, it mostly just sounded weird.

im not sure what that means or what it does. all i know is that if i jumper it, it gets louder and has more gain.

then they aren't inverted.

what happens when they are is that the signal from one channel cancels the other one out, so if you have the exact same settings on both channels the volume is actually lowered.

I'm pretty sure the Bassman ten circuit is still out of phase between channels unless it has been modified in some way...schematic here...

Great choice! I got my '76 Bassman about half a year ago, never looked back. Perfect for what I play, but I am looking for a pedal to add a lot more gain than my Cusack screamer for certain riffs, soloing, etc.

try a big muff. my muff sounds huge through this amp. i made a thread a whileback in the effects forum about my muff not being loud enough, and it was deff the fault of the peavey. ever since ive gotten the bassman, all my effects have come to life. its crazy.

I played one of these today with my jag. Nice tone, breaks up cool but i didn't think it got all that loud, and my 40watt Traynor sounds better IMO (and louder, i think, though I didn't 10 the Bassman). Jumpering the channels sounds great. It didn't sound particularly good with my cheapo Squier (SDQP pickup ) P bass. I didn't bring any pedals.
Times change.  Remember when dog Jimmy used to go white and chalky?  Now it grows hair!  We got used to it. We'll get used to poly. -blueavenger

Newer one (the red one), I like it enough, but I haven't really played many amps TBH.

Not sure - but if you like it, who cares about all that other tech stuff...I have a Farfisa I am sure runs on fireflies, but it sounds great nonetheless.
