Looks as awesome as always, Ben!

I've used the grinder method too and it is highly recommended. I use a regular jack plane for the armcut, but I only make them regular Fender style - not as fancy and curved as yours.

I would be very interested in aquiring one of those double bearing router bits... where to get one?
There's a link above just between the two pics with the bit in - Axminster tools in the UK. Can't guarantee they ship abroad but I'm happy to mediate if needs be, Jerker.
Sorry - didn't see that one... Yeah - I think I'm going to get one of those. I may contact you, Ben, if I need help getting it here. Thanks for the offer!

:)
Someone knows where I can find the nearest woodchipper to throw my pieces of junk into?

I bought an angle grinder inspired by Cross_Guitars too, and the disk that is on it only any good for cutting through metal :wtf: . And I am having a hell of a time finding disks that look like they would work any good to carve contours like that.
You need one of these flexible backing pads:

With one of these on it, as coarse as you can get:

Last couple of days:

:wtf:
Image

I've been tweaking the position of the lower controls, and if I go for a separate chrome jag plate the edge of the cavity would have been just outside the plate, so I shaped a piece of alder and glued it in, then chiseled and sanded it flush and routed 95% of it back out again. Also widened the cavity a little at the jack end, things were a little too close to the edge:

I took the angle grinder to the tummy contour again, too, just to deepen it a little - I never seem to be able to get them deep enough first time. The body was a bit too thick at the upper waist. After all the woodwork I applied another couple of coats of sanding sealer and lightly sanded, then on with the first coat of primer:

Steve at MGT just emailed me to say he can't supply that inverness green from that epiphone, which is annoying. He suggested sherwood, but I think I'll go for the pelham blue and see what I can do with amber clear coats. Any other suggestions more than welcome. Options here: http://www.manchesterguitartech.co.uk/lacquer.html

Also, the Bilt Relevator has kind of put me off doing the starcaster headstock again...once more, suggestions welcome.

You've obviously never seen Ben eat a hotdog!
You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.

Dakota, mainly! I was trying to mix a decent colour from the lacquer I had lying around. This is what happens when you empty the air from a rattlecan of firemist gold and pour the contents (which were like fizzy jelly) into a tin of dakota. Stirring wasn't working, so I put the lid on, tapped it down firmly: BANG, off it came with a vengeance. The colour was afwul, too.

I've just ordered a neck blank, a slab of 1/8" thick MOP for blocks, and also a tin of Leaf Green, an old Porsche colour, and a pot of very fine metallic flake.

This is the colour:

It might need taming with a little bit of black, but with the metallic flake it should be just about right.

Can you mix flake with a solid color? or is the leaf green more of a candy?
I finally finish building a guitar, go to play it, and then remember, "oh yeah, that's right. I suck at playing... Why did I build another guitar again?"

Not sure yet. I may end up having to add some clear to give it more depth and let the flake shine a bit more. So long as it's dusted on lightly the flake should stand up out of the green enough that it won't matter too much how opaque the colour is.

I think the vintage Porsche has a more mellow green, a little closer to sherwood. The other one looks like it belongs in a Sonic The Hedgehog game.

Yeah - that GT3 is viper green; I'm hoping for something a bit more subtle.
