70's Bassman 100 Head

ANOTHER SILVERFACE FENDER!!!

ok i havent bought it yet, but someone near me is selling an ealy 70's bassman 100 head. now, ive had a marshall 1965b 4x10 forever and never use it because i dont have a head for it. i figure this is a good opportunity to get a head for it.

has anybody used one? how loud does it get? whats the breakup like?

i know i already have a bassman ten, but how cool would it be to make this a stereo rig???? i think it would rock.

I almost picked one of these up last week. I was talking to a friend who is an amp tech, he said the desighn was a bit flawed. He said they didn't load the preamp hard enough hence they aren't very loud. Someone else wound up buying the one I was looking at. Vintage gear seems to only get more expensive and is never a bad idea.

so they dont get very loud? ???

i did notice that my bassman ten doesnt gett hat loud either but i love the tone. the reason i would buy the bassman 100 is so i could get the tone i olove even LOUDER

yeah, none of the 70's bassmans get very loud. but from what I understand it's pretty easy to mod them to blackface specs and they are still pretty afordable.

is that mod gonna kick the volume up? anything to get a volume boost while maintaining a good tone will interest me. any resources i can look at that you know of???

I have do agree with Jonas there. I'm selling one as we speak and I have never run it on 10(mastervolume) more like 6 or 7 and it's LOUD enough right there  :o
I've used it to gig on medium sized scenes.

Provided that it's tube. 100w solid state amps don't measure up the same way in terms of headroom etc.

yeah, that was what i meant, should have clarified that.

still, 100W solid state is still pretty damn loud - considering I gigged for years with a 30W SS 2x10 combo...

Buy it!
I found a 68 Silverface Bassman head on Craigslist for $400.  50 watts. I thought about buying it, but then I'd need a cab.  Besides, I just got a SF Twin Reverb.  Still, seems like a good deal.
