Jazzmaster pickup: neck or bridge?

Post by seasick croc » Sat May 19, 2007 8:08 am

Here are two images of the same 1966 Jazzmaster pickup. Is there a way to tell if it was originally in the neck or bridge position?

If the pickups are supposed to be Reverse wound/reverse polarity on 66 jazzmasters, you can probably tell which is which by puting a compass vertically above the pickups.
It will allow you to see which one has the magnets north up or south up.

Then of course you would have to know if neck pickups in 66 jazzmasters are supposed to be North up or south up...
But i dont think you can tell from the pictures only (i think it's i love sharin foo's pickup, a board member here, maybe he will know).

Put the face of the pickup to the face of a known bride pup. If it's a neck the oposite poles will atract.

If the wiring is right then that's a neck pickup.

I was the one who sold that on eBay  8). I replied to your message there, but in case you didn't get it, it's defintiely a neck pickup  :) It sounds really good too. I would have liked to have held onto it, but I don't have time for any projects right now.
