Epi Valve junior competitor - Peavey Valveking Royal 8

Post by fourmations » Tue May 22, 2007 1:41 am

hi all

while about to buy an Epi Vlave junior
I came accross this fella
http://www.peavey.com/products/browse.c ... oyal+8.cfm

this seems great, class A - all valves etc. same a the epi

and  the selling point...
it has a tone and gain control and a headphones out
which the epi needs mods to achieve

anyone tried these? or any peavey valve amps

regards

I got the Valveking 112 50w Combo
http://www.peavey.com/products/browse.c ... +Combo.cfm
It's good , but the speaker sounds a bit muddy on the clean channel. At least on the 112(easy to change) , haven't try the other ones...
Dist channel is really good  ;)

The sound clips sounds good !
...but they are the same for the royal 8 and the combo 112.. :-\ ..Makes you wonder what you are actually listenning to..

The royal 8 is the first 5 w class A all tube amp I see the a gain control.. it's nice to have the choice between preamp and power amp distortion .

Please keep in mind that I work for the parent company of Crate & Ampeg. However, I'll just report facts and not opinion unless I note that something is in fact my opinion.

You could check out this 5 Watter. It also has Pre-Amp Gain, Tone & Master Volume.
http://www.crateamps.com/html/product.cfm?pid=135

Opinion: All of these Master Volume amps sound 'better' when the Master Volume is cranked and the overall volume is regulated with the Pre-Amp Gain... kinda like using the controls the other way around.
