Re: new XII project
Having just played around with the XII dressing room, I'm thinking that since your guard has a nice yellow/mint tint to it and a metallic would be nice. Ice Blue Metallic, Burgundy Mist Metallic, or Firemist Silver would all be great colors. I'd probably do a slightly yellowed clearcoat with any of them and a matching headstock.

Re: new XII project
The bottom plate was not included in the Venus XII's bridge either. I did a temporary plate in brass, because the height screws sunk into the old EXII body without it.
Someone knows where I can find the nearest woodchipper to throw my pieces of junk into?

Re: new XII project
XII dressing room? i only find Jazz and Jag in there
Jerker, thx for confirming re. the small plate. that's what i thought.
i have to get off my ass and decide on the colour, though. i think black would look really hot with this old, super yellowed guard.
and dare i say it, not with matching headstock.
i do have a really nice decal coming

Aged LPB with enough yellowing to turn green is one of my favorite Fender colors--it might be possible to duplicate that.kalipigeon wrote:Having just played around with the XII dressing room, I'm thinking that since your guard has a nice yellow/mint tint to it and a metallic would be nice. Re: new XII project
I just got back from vaca and FINALLY ordered the paint. i have a bunch of other pokers in the fire, but the XII will be moved up.....
Taking a page from Jerker's book, this XII will be (Inca) Silver with matching headstock.

Re: new XII project
I've never seen Inca Silver in person--is it a "pure" silver, or does it have a tint?

Re: new XII project
agreed!
Have you decided if to go with tinted clear ontop of it? If so and you use reranch neck amber - be sure to just lightly dust it on as their amber clear seems to be pretty yellow. I remember Doug had to redo a pink finnish due to the amber being too dark/yellow and turned the guitar into a piece of smoked salmon.
Anyway - either or will look great with that perloid guard, even though I'd go with a slightly tinted inca.

Re: new XII project
reranch also has a normal tinted clear coat you can get that is not the neck amber. i think that would be the route to go. the neck amber is way too orange for sure!!!!. but i have never used the tinted clear coat yet.
i'm thinking of doing my blaster in aged inca/firemist silver now
looks so good!

Re: new XII project
oh yeah, i have RR tinted lacquer. it is VERY yellow. i am going to build up coats of clear lacquer, then lightly put on some tinted. I'll perhaps simulate even some wear, then lock it under more clear.
My guard is VERY yellowed, and i think the fresh inca would look odd, so i'll warm up the silver!
